About Me |
One of my first reading memories is being told that I
was not allowed to take out so many books from the library
(I could barely hold them all) because I couldn’t possibly read
them all in one week. That librarian was wrong. I discovered
Georgette Heyer in my parents’ library - a euphemism for a room where
there were books everywhere - on the floor, double-stacked on shelves,
seeping into the hallway, and was delighted by her way with language
and a good romp. The romance didn’t hurt, either. I moved on to
historicals (Anya Seton’s Katherine stands out in
particular), gleaning a lot of history while feeding my romantic passion
until college, my budget and the newer romances’ formulaic prose
got in the way. It also did not help that I was an English major, so
carrying around books that featured ladies with swirling hair and
muscular men with bigger chests than I had was too big an embarrassment.
Some fifteen years after graduation, I realized that I am no longer
embarrassed by enjoying a good read, no matter what the cover looks
like, and I have been devouring books at a rare clip since that epiphany. I
live in Brooklyn with my husband, the editor-in-chief of a consumer
music magazine, and my son, a precocious four year-old named Rhys.

Personal Reading Tastes |
What I'm a sucker for in a book: First-person point of view,
alpha males, bluestockings, physical imperfections, marriages of convenience,
and reformed rakes.
What drives me absolutely nuts in a book: Regency spies, foolhardy
heroines, and "titian" hair or "emerald-green" eyes.
