A number of Brenda Joyce books are available for $2.99 at B&N and Amazon today, possibly elsewhere as well. Some of these are stinkers, but After Innocence is very good. I also really liked Violet Fire.

I am sorry that I did not post it, as I'm deep in final papers and exams this week and didn't think of it (other than the relief that free ebooks gave me between freshman research papers <g>).
There were several books on freebie from Amazon this week, but the one I wanted to mention most is "In Deep Shitake" by Patricia Mason. It is still available for 99 cents. It is totally cute--she describes it as a Humorous Romantic Suspense, and, golly gee, that's what it is. If you liked movies like "Foul Play" or like parodies of spy movies, this is for you. The hero is the B-list star of a movie called SpyMatrix (Steven Dagger--he carries a Big Gun), who is recognized only by his SpyMatrix name when he travels to Savannah to meet with a film investor. The heroine is a part-time PI whose total PI experience is catching cheating husbands. Go on from there. It is an extremely amusing read.

| Quote: | Hannah Sunderland felt content in her embrace of the Quaker faith . . . until her twin brother joined the Colonial cause and ended up in jail. She longs to bring some measure of comfort to him in the squalid prison, but her faith forbids it. The Friends believe that they are not to take sides, not to take up arms. She is not allowed to visit him, even if she were able to secure a pass.
Jeremiah Jones, a Colonial spy, needs access to the jail to help rescue men important to the cause. Upon meeting Hannah, a plan begins to develop. Who would suspect a pious Quaker visiting a loved one?
But Jeremiah is unprepared for Hannah, for her determination to do right, to not lie. How can one be a spy and not lie? Hannah, in turn, is surprised by Jeremiah . . . for the way he forces her to confront her own beliefs, for the sensitivity and concern that he shows her despite the wounds he still carries.
In a time of war, can two unlikely heroes find the courage to act? |

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this or not, but Michelle Jerott's books, Her Bodyguard, Absolute Trouble, All Night Long and A Great Catch are on Amazon under Michelle Albert. For only 2.99 per book. I was in the mood for a reread (All Night Long) and looked under Jerott, but found them all under Albert. _________________ "As you wish"

The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted - FREE on Amazon
| Quote: | | Women have been known to lament, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride." For Johnny Smith, the problem is, "Always a Best Man, never a groom." At age 33, housepainter Johnny has been Best Man eight times. The ultimate man's man, Johnny loves the Mets, the Jets, his weekly poker game, and the hula girl lamp that hangs over his basement pool table. Johnny has the instant affection of nearly every man he meets, but one thing he doesn't have is a woman to share his life with, and he wants that desperately. When Johnny meets District Attorney Helen Troy, he decides to renounce his bro-magnet ways in order to impress her. With the aid and advice of his friends and family, soon he's transforming his wardrobe, buying throw pillows, ditching the hula girl lamp, getting a cat and even changing his name to the more mature-sounding John. And through it all, he's pretending to have no interest in sports, which Helen claims to abhor. As things heat up with Helen, the questions arise: Will Johnny finally get the girl? And, if he's successful in that pursuit, who will he be now that he's no longer really himself? THE BRO-MAGNET is a rollicking comedic novel about what one man is willing to give up for the sake of love. |

| Quote: | A harrowing trio of murder, romance, and power propel the action forward in this story about little Jenny Waring. In a moment of dire crisis, she did something exceptional, and the authorities want to know how and why she killed three armed men like a seasoned agent.
It's Kier McAllister's job to break Jenny Waring—he's asking a lot of questions, and he isn't asking nicely. However much McAllister thinks he's in control, the balance of power is shifting. Jenny's accusing eyes are starting to hold the whole world for him, and that isn't good—not when the people he works for aren't about to leave her alone.
Jenny Waring started out as McAllister's job, how can she become his redemption? |

Pamela Clare: Sweet Release
FREE on Smashowrds
| Quote: | For five pounds in sterling, the convict was hers. Though Cassie hated the slave trade, her Virginia plantation demanded the labor, and she knew this fevered man would surely die if she left him. But as his wounds healed and his muscled chest bronzed in the sun, Cassie realized Cole Braden was far more dangerous than his papers had indicated—for he could steal her breath with a glance and lay siege to her senses with a touch.
Abducted, beaten, and given a new name, Alec went from master of an English shipbuilding empire to fourteen years of indentured servitude in the American colonies. There, he was known as Cole Braden, a convicted ravisher and defiler of women. And while he longed to ravish the auburn-haired beauty who owned him, he knew his one hope of earning her love—and his freedom—was to prove his true identity. Only then could he turn the tables and attain his ... Sweet Release. |
