So, what do the rest of you think of this program?
As an older person, I frequently fast forward the show because most of the songs are unfamiliar to me. I, personally, was glad to see Astro go. Although I was NOT happy with the hosts reducing this boy to tears, shown on national television, I thought he was pretty cocky (and not in a good way) kid, plus, I'm not a fan of rap (no surprise there, I suppose).
One thing I do not like about the program is its sadism toward the contestants. It is designed to make things as suspenseful as possible, but often, the news is delivered in the most hurtful way possible. As Drew was sobbing on stage last night, the MC kept asking her, "What are you feeling in this moment, Drew?" Duh.
I think Simon's choice of her songs was too similar--always the ethereal, wispy, and slow, and although Drew may not have been capable to singing anything else, Simon was right (and thoughtful) to take the blame for Drew's defeat. It's good that she's only 14 and seems to have a solid family and values behind her to help her recover. I hope the same is true for Astro.
So, who do you think will win? I'm thinking it'll be Melanie Amaro. I, personally, really like Josh Krajcik and Rachel Crow.
And what do you all think about the constant sniping between Simon and the rest of the judges? I wish they’d stop, personally, or at least cut it down.
Were the Jacksons incapable of smiling during the show? To call them bored is an understatement. |

I've only been peeking in every now and then for a number of reasons.
I used to be a fan of Simon's, but his last couple of seasons on Idol showed him rolling his eyes constantly, and treating Paula like his own personal poodle. This show has him back at his worst. He treats Paula and Nicole with utter contempt and condescension, and LA as a competitor. I watch talent shows for - wait for it - the talent, not the judges.
I thought the talent quotient was not as high as it could have been, and this was the judges' fault, choosing people not for their ability but for their story. I was offended when Simon called Paula and Nicole 'spiteful little cats' for not putting through one of his contestants (the girl had little talent, though she had a great look), and then he turned around and eliminated her first when he had to narrow his group to three. He broke the rules by bringing in Melanie Amaro, who was so clearly more talented than his 'pet' performer and should have been kept in the first place, instead of the other girl. It was all so calculated for 'drama' and bickering among the judges. Yawn.
I'm sooo over it, and looking forward to Idol with Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler in January!
Simon is ego incarnate. I keep hearing that in person he is charming, self-deprecating and a lovely man; wish he'd show more of that part of his personality.
BTW... I've been rooting for Josh Krajcik from the beginning. _________________ Visit my blog for the latest!

Despite the fact that I watch it - much to my dismay, I don't like it. NOT AT ALL. I think the judges are too busy being nasty to each other using the poor unsuspecting singers to do it. I found it just cruel last week so I am determined not to watch again.
I shall Boycott it! |
