Last month while Sony was offering a deal I traded in our oldest PRS 505 Reader for credit toward a new PRS T1 Reader. Nothing I noticed before the purchase mentioned that the T1 doesn't have backward compatibility with two older formats supported in all the earlier models of the Reader that I have bought: lrf & rtf. When I loaded my ebooks into the T1 it came up almost 300 ebooks short. I was able to download epub replacements for about half of the ebooks I had in lrf & rtf formats, but many were from sites where that was not possible.
I have seen the free Calibre ebook management software mentioned several times over the years, but hadn't seen a personal need for it. I downloaded & installed a copy and did a little testing and was able to use Calibre to convert all the remaining lrf & rtf ebooks to epub format (over 100 of them in one step). All of these are non-DRM formats. Calibre can't do anything with the many ebooks I have with DRM.
Since I had installed Calibre, I also checked & found that it could clean up metadata (the title & author data the Reader uses) in both epub & pdf files. I was able to fix title & author glitches in over 40 ebooks.
All the ebook files produced by Calibre use full title - full author in the filenames, eliminating the duplicate and obscure filename problems created by the naming systems of several sites.
I add my recommendation to others I've read for Calibre for anyone with numbers of non-DRM ebooks to manage.

I love Calibre.

I put all of my digital books in it. I particulary like the tags feature and how the tags show up as collections on my Sony 650.

I have the automatic metadata feature turned off and only use specific tags for my books. I also like to list the original publised date rather than the date the book was released digitally in the "published" column.

Another great feature is that it keeps series in numerical order on my Sony regardless of what order they were added to the device without having to make the series number part of the title.

I think it is a great program just for it's cataloging and sorting abilities alone, which are simple to use. Then you have its conversion abilities which are very cool. Its GUI isn't the prettiest thing, but I love the fact it's one program that works for beginner users who just want to catalog their books all the way up to the more advanced users.

That's how I removed the drm on sony ebooks that I PURCHASED, I would not have done it for any other reason.

I actually used this feature to covert epub books I had not read yet on my sony to mobi in calbre to read on my kindle fire!
