That seems an odd choice for an excerpt. I get that it's their first meeting but it's not really gripping. It's not bad but it doesn't make me jones to read their whole story, which should be the point of releasing an excerpt.

Definitely not a "grabber" - I'm not sure I'm going to buy this one. I loved her Travis series contemporaries, thought they were all DIKs. I have almost all her historicals. I couldn't wait for her last contemporary, Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor - a lead-in to this series, I think, but I was very disappointed. It was basically a nice little Harlequin romance (120 pages, even shorter than most Harlequins) for $9.99. It seemed forced to me - like she had a contract to write another contemporary series but she didn't have a story line so she just forced this out. Then it was way too short, but instead of putting in a Christmas anthology, the publisher renamed it a novella and charged full price (but don't worry b/c the next one will be a full-length novel). Honestly, I was surprised that there weren't more complaints about it.

She was an auto-buy for me (as in be at B&N when it opens so I can read it the first day it's out) but no more. I will wait for the AAR reviews and opinions.

Exactly my point, she was an auto buy for me too, but i was not impressed with xmas eve, plus all these rumours about magic and such going ons in the coming series! why doesn't she continue doing what she does best, all this messing about has ruined her for me. Another favourite author bites the dust for me *sigh*

This is disappointing. After her successful and very enjoyable "Travis" series, I was looking forward to another contemporary from Lisa Kleypas. This one just doesn't set any fires under me. I know I'll end up reading it but I won't be first in line to purchase it either at the bookstores or on my Kindle . . . might just wait and pick up at the UBS. I'm ready for her to write another great historical series.

Lisa Kleypas has always been an automatic buy for me. But I did not even read the last book so I will not be buying her next one.

What rumors about magic? I don't remember hearing those.

Christmas Eve was underwhelming, so I was hoping for her to come out really strong strong with this book.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I can't wait for this book. I loved Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor. Sure it was short but what a great book. It was well written and better than longer novels out there.

It never ceases to amuse and annoy me at the same time, that some readers are so willing to write off a book based on a short little excerpt, when a book isn't even out yet. This isn't the first time I've seen sour grape posts based on pretty much nothing. I'd say before you reach snap judgements on a book and make such declarations, the sour grape people wait for at least one review.

Going back to reread Christmas Eve - the writing was good - but I stand by my original comment that it was shorter than a Harlequin book and should not have been marketed and published as a $9.99 book. I don't consider that a "sour grapes" comment. I also think it's better for me to wait and see than to pre-order as I would have in the past. That is based more on the CE experience than the chapter excerpt.

Lisa Klepas is a very talented author, but like most authors is under some pressure to publish. I hope she will have more amazing stories like Sugar Daddy, Blue-Eyed Devil, and Smooth Talking Stranger. I have read and reread them, lent them out countless times, and would replace them if I ever lost them. I won't "leave" her if she has a "slump" but I will not buy hardcovers unless I know they are really worth it.

The value of this forum is that readers discuss their honest feelings about a book. I have read many comments from readers who didn't like Madeline Hunter's latest book/series; I am a huge Madeline Hunter fan and loved this series, but I wasn't offended by others who did not feel the same way.

I agree. I think that Lisa Kleypas set this one up nicely and I am intrigued enough to want to buy it when it comes out.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, indeed having differing views is what makes a forum enjoyable to me, but name calling? couldn't you put your argument forth without it?

I actually thoughthe excerpt was good. She is an auto-buy as well and at this point I am not even questioning her (although I was afraid when she took the year off that she may be sufferring writer's block. I didn't buy any of the travis books until 2 years in and kicked my self for not getting on board sooner (hate books written first person). Now I give anything she writes a chance.
