And the Nook refurb sales just keep on coming: NOOK Wifi Refurb for $79 (free shipping) from B&N's Ebay store. (they also sell covers - for even less than Overstock)

I think the silicon sleeve is great for keeping the case clean and maybe a better grip and they're pretty. Cases that open like a cover, pouches, enclosed sleeves etc are better for protecting the screen when you're not using it or carrying in your bag. But there's no reason you can't have both. _________________ "My safe word is monkey"

Alas, no commission.
I picked up one from Overstock and bought a case (to get me over the magic $100 mark) - before I saw the B&N on Ebay deal was back up again but $5 more for 3G isn't so bad. _________________ "My safe word is monkey" |

Hmmmm.....not sure what to do! We visited the Nooks yesterday and my daughter liked them, and I liked them as well, but I don't know if I want to buy a refurb one. I had a bad experience with a refurb camera so that soured me to trying other items. But I'm sure they're guaranteed for a good amount of time. Still thinking! _________________ For the first time in her life, she saw exactly what she’d thrown away when she decided to have him by means fair or foul……that she’d not saved him but wronged him by consigning to him all the ability of a box turtle to make his own choices. ~Gigi |

I haven't heard anyone on the Nook boards complaing about issues they've had with a refurbished Nook, but it's up to you, I know that can be dicey.
This is what they say for the refurbished one s-
Warranty Information:
90 day complimentary phone support
Unlimited online technical support
One-year limited warranty
Though I don't know what's up with only offering 90 days phone support, their email customer service is terrible. Maybe they mean the Nook boards with online technical support.
There's a link on this pag of what B&N has to say about the certification process -

Refurbs are mostly just returns from people who decided they didn't want one - still technically used so they can't be sold as new. The devices are actually too inexpensive to warrant the actual cost for repair which is why if one breaks and is still under warranty they just send you another instead of fixing. The warranty for these is supposed to be the same as for the new models so if they're duds (and I believe some of the first released models had issues) you can exchange it.
If anyone wants to extend their warranty (for product, accidental and damage) for any of their recently bought (I think within 90 days) e-reader (Kindle, Sony, Nook) there's Square Trade which is supposed to be very reliable and there's a current 40% off coupon FBPREVIEW

Aw man! I kinda wanted the Sony, but thought it was too pricey. Ah well. At least I'm not breaking our traditional No Shopping Day. _________________ "I say, don't read the classics -- try to discover your own classics; every life has its own." -- Rudolf Flesch, _How to Make Sense_ |

I just bought a used Sony 600 (in like new condition) last week for $100. I bought it before reading about the glare and lack of contrast issues. But I didn't see anything wrong with it and I'm very happy with the reader.
I love that it reads almost any formats. I could never be satisfied with a reader that only reads one format. I never shop at the same place and I need variety in the supported formats.
I also love that you can take notes on it and save them. You can do so by typing on the simulated keyboard or by hand by using the stylet. It's pretty useful. I'm learning Korean and I practice my writing on it when I have some spare time. You can also listen to mp3s and I've copied the cd of my Korean lesson book so that I can listen to it. While I listen I try to write what I've just heard. It's great, I would never have imagined I could do something like that with an ereader.
The only thing I don't like about it is the computer software: I wish it would let me save a book from my computer directly into one of my collections. As things are, you have to transfer the book to your reader or your memory card and only then you can move it to the collection of your choice. When you start to have lots of books, collections are a must to organize them all in a easily accessible way. It's not a big problem, just a little nitpick.
Battery life seems great. The reader recharges through the USB each time you plug it into the computer so that's a great thing as well. I bought the $8 optional sony charger to recharge it when I don't have a computer nearby. |

| PWNN or anyone who knows- I just clicked on the link to the ebay site for B&N and couldn't find the refurb Nook, only accessories. Is this a case where I need to keep checking back or do you think it was a one time deal? $79 is great. |

I've heard that they are gone now, someone was complaining on the B&N boards about their order being canceled because they ran out of stock.

Mine is still "processing" which according to their site means it's at the warehouse but I've already received the cover. Pftt. _________________ "My safe word is monkey" |

I got my Sony 650 yesterday and love it.
The Sony Store is not as user friendly as it could be I bought one book there just to see how it was. I already have over 200 ebooks and at least 40 of those make up my "e" tbr pile. So, it's not like I am lacking in new material for it.
I am looking forward to getting library books on it. |
