The second season is on Demand as well. Are there particular episodes you recommend from last season? Any good Eric ones or Bill ones to compare?

Bill is definitely a strong presence, no doubt. Eric is a bit more ruthless but there is no denying Bill has a dark side as well.

Last night's episode wasn't as good as the first I thought, I guess I'm just never going to be crazy about the Tara storylines, I find her annoying. The promos for next week look fab though!

Claire - going through the short episode clips on the DVD some of my favorites were - eps 2&3 because there is some great Jessica and Jessica and Hoyt moments. Episode 9 has a pretty sneaky Eric moment, hmmm Ep 8 says that Eric comes to Sookie's rescue but I'm trying to remember how. So maybe eps 2,3,8 & 9 would be fun to check out.

Ok, so what did you all think of the Snoop Dogg video at the end of last night's episode? lmao!

It got a chuckle out of me! I read somewhere a while ago that he was a BIG fan of the show.

And I agree about last night's episode, Linda, it didn't have the rapid fire zip of the season's premiere. I don't want to dislike the Tara character, but they sure have her pegged as a victim, don't they? It's hard to root for her when they constantly have her in one whiny dilemma after another.

Have you read the books? I'm wondering about the guy Jessica attacked...spoiler question: does he turn into a vampire??

Jessica isn't even in the books! But the possibility you mentioned, well I hadn't thought of that. Hmmmmm!

That's exactly it with Tara. Enough already, it's hard to feel sorry for her anymore, especially when she consistently lashes out at those that love her. She's hard to warm up to, IMHO. She isn't in the books either, by the way.

Linda... It comes on at a bad time for me so I have to wait for it to get on Demand. I haven't figured out what the lag time is for that but I know its less than a week. I'm a little bummed to hear the second didn't have the spark of the first but I'm going to charge through. The good thing about seeing it later is I can ffwrd through anything the freaks me out. The show is really original which is so nice for a change.

I saw the 2nd episode of this season this weekend and while I don't understand all the sub plots.. I really like the show and I'm getting kind of hooked. Razz I went to the 8th and 9th episode of last year like you suggested Linda and ooh I like Eric, like a lot! I have to say I'm team Eric. It seems like Bill won't have a chance considering part of Eric is now forever in Sookie (I feel naughty saying that Wink ) That dream was very nice! I was a little surprised that his maker was so much shorter the he is. Thats the person that first bit him right? Couldn't he have fought that little guy off? Razz

I like Sookie's brother Jason a lot. He's really funny and cute too. I like Lafayette too.

I'm learning lot about vampires. I've not read any of the multitude of vampire books so I'm really behind. I forgot they can't come out in the daytime. So, can they be inside, just not exposed to sunshine or do they have to be asleep? Can they be killed with a wooden stake like some of the townspeople thought in that church? I also forgot they are immortal. Are there any other big vampire necessities I need to know important to this story? I can't believe the bloody heart casserole part- I'm talking fast is how I went through that part. Yuck!!!!

Speaking of dreams, Claire, did you see Sam's dream from Episode 1 of Season 3? As soon as that little scene started to get weird I thought this is a dream, but it was such a funny little scene. Love it that they showed that a vamp's blood affects both sexes the same way!

At some point in Season 2, I can't remember what episode, they show a flashback to how Eric was sired by Godric. That episode sheds some light on how Godric got the best of Eric.

I love Jason and Lafayette, too. Those two are key players in some of my fave LOL moments. I've never read the books so I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I love the show. It's a guilty pleasure!

Do you mean by blood? Sookie has had Bill's blood as well, you should watch the first episode of season 1! Smile

Size doesn't matter with vampires, even if they are small they're still 10 times stronger and faster than any human. A vampire the size of a child could take down a human, the older they are also the stronger they are. Eric was in a moment of weakness when Godric got him but I don't think he needed it, I think it was part of what drew him to him as far as character goes.

Jason is much more entertaining in the series than he is in the books! The actor that plays him is brilliant!

They must sleep during the day but they can pull themselves awake if an emergency happens. Probably the older they are the better their ability to do this. Vampire 'rules' vary by author, so even if you had learned the rules with one another author could chose to portray them in an entirely different way.

There were several points in episode 2 that I shut my eyes! I forget whether they can be killed with a stake in the Sookie series, I imagine if you took the heart or the head they'd be gone. They can be harmed by silver as you've seen when they took Bill and a cross will burn them as well in the Sookie series.

I haven't watched last night's episode yet, I hope it's good! We're getting ready to leave town for a few days so it will be end of the week before I can catch it.

Claire, do you have Netflix? You should really try to catch season 1, I think you'd get even more out of the show if you were able to watch it in order. On DVD at least you can fast forward through parts that are especially disturbing to you. Smile

I saw last nights episode and thought it was really good. I'm not giving anything away to say Sam's biological mom and family was in it and they again showed the father in just his underwear which looks like he hasn't changed in weeks. Its so disgusting but hilarious! Laughing

Jason has some funny bits being quizzed about the law. I just love him! There's a new character thats a werewolf and he's nice looking. Will have to see where they go with him. I wish there had been more Sookie and Eric though. I missed the first five minutes of the show so I have to see it again. I just did a search and see there are other viewing times than Sunday night. Duh!

OH and wait til you see the final scene Linda! If I said anything about Bill being the kindler, gentler vampire, I take it all back!! Whoa! I think I need to go back and see the first season. Yes I do have Netflix and that is a GREAT idea!

jebe- I'll have to find that episode about how Godrick got the best of Eric. Sounds interesting!

Yes, the werewolf is Alcide and IMO, he looks very much like his description in the book. He was one of my favorite characters and at the time, I thought Sookie might have a thing for him. Smile
HBO was free this weekend and I finally got to see 2 episodes from this season. I broke down and ordered it (HBO) so now I can be in on all the fun of this series.
The ending....hmmmm. Bill went a little nuts. My daughter watched it with me and isn't a fan of the books or the series. She was sort of surprised that I am interested. Smile I do enjoy the books more, but like the series too. And what can I say. I'm a big fan of The Northman...the Viking vampire.

Linda-I know you probably won't read this until you return from your trip, but so much from my theory on Jessica and the truck driver! Wait til you see that scene!

Claire-I always watch the repeats! Around here, it's on Monday, Tuesday, for some reason not Wednesday and I think every day after at some time or another.

Xina and Claire-that last scene w/Bill was a doozy, wasn't it? So much for mild mannered gentlemanly Bill. In hindsight, though, I feel like it was there to show how much Lorena represents the worst in him.

Love Alcide so far, a definite cutie. Is he Cajun in the books? Oh and speaking of books, is Arlene pregnant in the books, too? Spoiler: I'm a little too blonde at times, were they implying that her baby's father is Rene? The killer from Season 1? I'm not the sharpest tack in the box! Wink Sometimes I need it spelled out in Times Square b/f I'll understand!

About Bill's scene...in the book that is a pivotal point in his relationship with Sookie. I don't know how they will handle it in the series though. They don't follow the book.
And I think that Alcide was Cajun in the book. As for Arlene...yes, I thought that they were implying that the baby's father was Rene. And I really can't remember if Arlene was pregnant in the book. She is a very different person in the book. Hates everything shapeshifter, werewolf and vampire. She seems more tolerant in the series.

I watch this series but I'm ambivalent about it. I keep tuning in to the dang thing and I like some storylines but at the same time I find the show to be really sleezy at times. I don't like Alan Ball and I don't find the writing to be particularly great. The acting is hit or miss for me. If I want to watch a show with genius dialogue and sublime acting I'll put in one of my Deadwood dvds. True Blood is okay to watch on tv but I won't be buying the discs.

Spoilers ahead:

Season 1 (or what could easily be called Jason's boink fest)

pros:

Tara - I got invested in the character and love the actress. I really root for Tara to be happy.
Jessica - just cracked me up when she was driving Bill crazy
Eddie (the vamp that Jason's girlfriend murdered) - really kind vampire that I wish hadn't been killed off
Rene's storyline - figured out he was too good to be believed and that he had to be the killer pretty early on but still wanted to see the storyline play out
funeral & Sookie eating the pie - really liked what the writers did here. made you really feel for Sookie having to listen to all those people's hateful thoughts at the worst time in her life.

cons:

Jason - hated that he didn't help Eddie and didn't seem to care that Amy killed him
Sookie - seemed really fickle kissing Sam while Bill was away having to answer for her crime (killing the vampire). I'm not in love with Anna Paquin's acting or think she was the best choice for this part
animal sacrifice by that fake exorcist Mad Mad Mad
loose threads - felt like some things were left hanging - I'd have to watch the 1st season to remember what all I was annoyed with but I know I felt like that's it at the end of the darn thing

Season 2 (which could pass for pornography)

pros:
Eric - hot, bad boy appeal Razz
Lafayette - the scenes he was imprisoned by Eric were really disturbing and riveting and made you really want Lafayette to get out of that situation
Jessica & Hoyt - sweet love story and that actress is awesome!
Jason & Andy - much needed comic relief
Sam - liked Sam being happy for a second

cons:
Maryann - yes, Michele Forbes did a good job playing the character but I hated that whole storyline
Tara & Eggs - still love Tara but hated the storyline
Fellowship of the Sun - boring
Godric - great if he stuck around but to introduce the character and then have him kill himself was a real disapointment

Season 3 is shaping up, for me, to be the best of the series. I'm liking the characters of Franklin, Alcide, and the king & his hubby. I also like the darker side of Bill. I enjoyed seeing Eric's smokin hot body, but I really hope some restraint is showed this season and they build up to showing a good love scene rather than gratuitously showing sex scene after sex scene.

Good grief on Bill, so much for kindler and gentler, lmao! I saw it at my SIL's house. When he was twisting her neck..ewwwwie. That was just...weird. Weird even for True Bood. Great observation on the fact that Lorena brings out the worst in Bill.

I think they are priming Eric to be more 'nice' for a relationship with Sookie and they're turning Bill more ruthless/violent as they're separating him from Sookie.

The actor that plays Alcide is so HOT!

Linda

I thought about Rene being the father but wasn't he too long ago for her to be 8 weeks pregnant? That was first season! LOL I'm trying to figure out the timeline between seasons.

I don't recall Arlene being pregnant with Rene's baby in the books, in fact I'm not sure she's even pregnant, is she? I might have to go back and peek.

I was thinking the same Linda. In fact, I thought she may have had sex with someone during that weird Marianne thing. I don't think she was pregnant in the books. I just loaned them all out to my daughter's best friend's sister...LOL...so, I can't look it up. However, I'm pretty sure she is not pregnant and wondering who-the-father-is in the books.
