I'm beginning to think I'm prescient and I'm definitely feeling vindicated by Toyota's problem with acceleration and brakes. I bought a new Camry in 2008. While test-driving it, I commented to the salesman that the acceleration didn't "feel" right. When depressing the pedal to shift into passing gear, the car would "hesitate" for a second. I took the thing back to the dealer three times; eventually they explained that Toyota had switched to "driving by wire," which simply meant they no longer used cables but computers to control acceleration. I had owned three previous Camry's, thought the model was a marvel, but I traded the 2008 in within two months.

Must be the model. I have a 2008 Corolla and it's been a joy to drive.

I'm happy for you. The 2008 Camry was the fourth I'd owned, but it scared me, especially when I moved out to pass another car. I simply couldn't take the suspense each time it hesitated.
