I've liked the past two X-Men movies, and I adore Hugh Jackman, but I really was bored, as well as a little disgusted by the endless violence (including showing a surgically-altered villain with his mouth sewn shut), by the latest Wolverine movie. The action was flat, and instead of an ambiguous and changeable relationship between Wolverine and his brother, it was just stupid. "I'm going to kill you." "You can try." Then, they save each other's lives. I know that Wolverine is supposed to be a troubled man, but he's just shown as vengeful, not heroic. We get no sense when he goes to the island where the other mutants are being objects of experimentation that he goes to free them. He only does so, at the plea of another character. And
instead of poignant, the ending was just flat. Disappointing movie.

That's too bad. Hugh Jackman is just dreamy. I loved his introduction number at the Academy Awards. Who knew Anne Hathaway could sing so good? Why isn't he in something romantic, besides Australia which I can't believe I haven't seen yet.

On the other hand, I went to see Wolverine yesterday and really enjoyed it. It didn't disappoint me in the least.

Claire, I've been following Hugh for years, way before he hit Hollywood. One of my fave 'romantic' movies is his Paperback Hero where Hugh plays an Aussie truck driver who writes romances! He uses his friend Ruby's name as a pseudonym and when the book gets published he has to convince her to pretend to be the author... Its a little predictable but Hugh and Claudia Karvan (Ruby) are always good, solid actors.

I just realized Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) was in it! Yeah! And yeah for casting Reynolds! I have to laugh at all his interviews where the interviewer was commenting on what great shape he was in and he replied along the lines of "I was okay but Hugh was bench-pressing cattle" or "Hugh is a skin covered mountain". I just love Reynolds and I hear they're thinking the next sequel might be about him.

On the other hand, can't wait for Gambit either. Such a squealing fangirl!

I actually enjoyed Wolverine a lot and as a die-hard comic fan in my teens/early twenties I was seriously afraid I'd be disappointed. But this film actually did a good job in capturing the spirit of the comics (and the Wolverine focussed comics were always more violent than the main X-Men titles, so the increased violence was justified IMO), even if there were departures from comic continuity. It was also nice to see a nod towards fairly obscure comic characters such as John Wraith and Diamond Lil along with popular figures such as Gambit and Wade Wilson (whose dialogue was spot on). This is one film I'd have loved to see undubbed, because I hope that the actors managed to pull off the distinctive accents of Logan, Sabretooth and Gambit.

I was a bit confused by how the film portrayed Silverfox as a harmless school teacher at first, when I knew that she's a very different character in the comics. But the film manages to overcome that discrepancy quite well, just as it also deals with the question of "Why is Wade Wilson so handsome?" They also managed to get rid of the misogynism and racism inherent in the "meeting" between Silverfox and Sabretooth. Whited out for spoiler alert: In the comics, Sabretooth rapes and kills Silverfox on Logan's birthday to taunt him and justifies his deed with the words (repeated in several issues of the Wolverine comic in the early 1990s) "She was an uppity squaw. She said no."

Of course, Silverfox is still a refrigerator woman in the movie, but then her character has never been anything else. But at least they got rid of some of the nastier implications of what happened to her.

Finally got to see it this weekend and liked it a lot! (Pesky relative wedding the weekend it came out caused us to be behind on our movie going My eldest son liked it enough to go back with a friend the following day.

I have to admit the highlight was Hugh Jackmann. Is it me or is he actually getting better looking? And is that even physically possible? He was absolutely gorgeous in this film but then, he has always been gorgeous so maybe I just haven't seen him in awhile and he took me by surprise or something. .

I especially enjoyed the beginning of the movie where we got to see all the different characters -- Zero was awesome (if evil) and Wade Wilson was to die for. Felt a bit sorry for Dominic Monaghan. Seems like he can't catch a break character wise. Will I AM was hilarious as Wraith, too.

Overall, I found the movie very enjoyable. Looking forward to owning it on DVD.

Was waiting for my BF to come home from working away to go and see this but I finally caved - and am so glad I did. Absolutely perfect IMO, violence and all. I'm a popcorn viewer anyway; I like explosions and shoot 'em ups and wolverine ripping people/helicopters/tanks etc to pieces with his claws.

The casting was brilliant, all the way through. Liev Schreiber was a strong antagonist, esp. considering someone had to have the masculinity to stand up against Wolverine (no easy task). Hugh is just pure hotness (porn for women anyone?) but manages to convey just a hint of the loving husband as well as the vengeance driven beast. I loved seeing all of the others - IMO the villains were always more interesting than the heroes in xmen anyway, which made Wolverine my favourite since he was always an anti-hero. Reynolds as Deadpool was spot-on - I liked the mouth sewn shut part, considering who he was in the comics. I was wondering how they were going to get around to that.

Definitely excited with Gambit (awesome power, awesome accent, hot!) and I liked Kayla too. I think I felt it more between she and wolverine than with Jean Gray.

Probably the only thing that didn't excite me was Cyclops appearance but then I've never been a huge fan.

My verdict - Bring on the next Origins! I am officially a squealing fangirl.

I saw it with the kids on Monday, and we all LOVED it!!!! I can't wait for more Xmen!
