The BBC's Little Dorrit has just ended - I am bereft as my husband and I were glued to the box when it was on and I am missing it hugely! To all AAR readers outside of the UK - this is one of the best BBC classic adaptations to date and it was written by Andrew Davies of P&P fame. Do look out for it! I'm waiting for the DVD and despite not having read Dickens since college days, have ordered a copy for my Christmas read.
PS - Matthew MacFadyen was utterly divine in this - fell in love with him! |

Elaine, Thank you so much for the news about "Little Dorrit". I had no idea this was out there. I'm a big fan of all the BBC Dickens productions.
I've had my eye on a box set I saw on Amazon of BBC Dickens. Someday!... One of my favorites was a production of "Hard Times" I saw many years ago on "Masterpiece Theatre". I don't even know if it exists anywhere or only in my memory. Anyway, I hope "Little Dorrit" is shown in the US soon.
By the way, does anyone know why Elizabeth Gaskell's "north and South" has never been shown here?
This is one of the reasons I love AAR - where else would I find out about stuff like this! Thanks again. |

Yes - had a look and that's the one. In total it is 15 hours long and was shown in half hour instalments in the UK with a one hour top and tail episode. The idea was to show it as a serial rather as Dicken's books appeared in that format. I remember Masterpiece Theatre with great fondness from when I last lived in the USA 30 years ago - it was a life line to 1st class TV drama. |

Thanks for the confirmation, Elaine. I'll be adding it to my tv watching calendar come spring. _________________ LinnieGayl |

Yesss. Thank you, Elaine! And Matthew Macfadyen ... I can hardly wait! I first "met" Macfadyen in Spooks (MI-5), which, BTW, has absolutely FANTASTIC male leads season after season; first Macfadyen *swoon*, then Rupert Penry-Jones *swoon doubled*, and then Richard Armitage "swoon tripled*! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Gerard Butler for Season 8... |
