I love Nora Roberts, and it pains me to agree with the B- review. I noticed a tendency (affectation?) in the first book of the trilogy, Blood Brothers, for characters to speak in incomplete sentences. The trend continues in this book, and for whatever reason, I find it a bit irksome. Examples? Glad you asked:

Page 32. Fox, "It's nothing. No big."
Page 38. Cybil, "I'll cross that bridge when."
Page 54. Fox, "Either way, life moves."
Page 107. Shelley, "I heard you were back, but haven't seen hide or hair."
Page 278. Brian O'Dell, "No. No big.

Anyone else have a problem with this, or is it just me?

I think I only noticed one of these, so I guess it didn't bother me ;)

I have a question: Do you mean it pains you because this wasn't an A read?

This wasn't an A read for me either, but I still enjoyed The Hollow.

Yes Cyl, exactly-- In my mind, the bar is set higher for her books. I did enjoy The Hollow, and am sorry we have to wait so long to finish out the series.

This doesn't bother me at all in Nora's books. I know that I speak in incomplete sentences with my friends, so having Nora's characters do the same occasionally just makes their dialogue all that more believable for me.

I liked The Hollow...liked it better than the first book. I'd give it a strong B, maybe a B+.
