| I've been following Thea Harrison's paranormal series, starting with the fabulous DRAGON BOUND. Generally, I get tired of series, partially because I can't remember some of the characters from year to year, but also because authors tend to repeat the same plot over and over again. So, some of the books of her series, I liked, others, not so much. I read her novella, DEVIL'S GATE last night and I liked it a lot. Frankly, I didn't think I would because the heroine is a Medusa, a being with snakes on her head. Now, I like most animals and love some, but I'm not wild about snakes. But Harrison makes them so interesting, so full of personality (although she does not individualize them), that they become charming. Although this book is short, it's fun. I definitely recommend it, even if you haven't read the series. It's a cheap and quick way to taste Harrison and then you can go on to DRAGON BOUND which is even better, IMO. |

I was apprehensive about this novella too, because of the snakes. But you used the word "charming" and that was a perfect description. I actually laughed out loud a few times at their antics. Dragon Bound is my favorite of the series so far, but I have really liked all of them. I am eagerly awaiting the next one. Thea Harrison is now on my auto-buy list. _________________ Dogs have owners; cats have staff. |
