I agree with you almost completely about Isabel Cooper's books. I would rate Lessons After Dark a bit higher--maybe because I read No Proper Lady first and knew why the Grenvilles behaved as they did in the second book. No Proper Lady adds time travel to the mix of Cooper's Victiorian England. Its heroine's quest is to prevent her timeline's apocalypse. I am really anticipating the next book in the series.

I wanted to say how much I appreciated this review because it described well what the paranormal elements are and how they get integrated. The first paragraph captures something I also look for. I tend to avoid the "larger than life/supernatural" elements too.

I will definitely plan to try these two by Cooper.
