It is a romance novel set in the past. It is about a man that finds his true love. One day he goes hunting, or some such thing, but gets lost for weeks. He is presumed dead and his love finds out she is pregnant and so marries his friend/brother who always wanted her. The hero returns to find his love married and agrees to marry a female friend who always loved him who, herself, had gotten pregnant by a man she cannot marry because he is native american. It then jumps forward many years and the hero's wife dies and the heroine is in an abusive situation with her husband. It ends with the hero and heroine getting back together.
