I agree. Like I said, it puts a face on what the real film could look like. Thanks to HEAreader for posting that.
Did you see her tweet the other day saying that it is waayy to early to report on casting? I took from that tweet that she is getting a lot of questions about names.
Hope you had a great vacay! _________________ "As you wish"

| Cool little preview. I haven't even read the book and I'm interested in the movie based upon it. Heh. Of course, I was a huge fan of Gilmore Girls, so I'm a sucker for a preview featuring one of its stars. |

Wow. Lot of stuff happening over here in the past month or so. Saw Sandy's blog and literally cannot believe there's still so much author and reader bashing going on. I'm not on Twitter very much, so maybe that's why I wasn't as aware. I do see the book referenced as a running joke on other reader sites occasionally, but authors who are attempting to stereotype fans of the series are shooting themselves in the foot. There are too many different kinds of people who like it. I figure they have more to lose from that kind of talk than EL James.
| Quote: | | http://lareviewofbooks.org/article.php?id=724&fulltext=1 I will admit to having a shockingly short fuse for critical articles about 50Shades from pundits who haven't read the books. Fortunately, book critics still feel the need to read before passing judgment. OK, deep breaths, this is a very interesting and accurate article that really sums up the reality of the 50 reading experience. |
Very glad Janet posted the link to this. I really enjoyed the article and think that the writer paid E.L. James a great compliment by discussing the trilogy in the context of erotic fiction and using it to unpack certain terms we throw around (BDSM, sexual sadism). There was so much talk about how the book misrepresented the BDSM lifestyle, I was delighted to see such a cogent discussion of sexual sadism and its ends. And the writer is absolutely right on when she says this:
"What is interesting about erotic books is the reflection they create, the image in the mirror that can be glimpsed when so many come to drink from the same well at the same time. The image we get from E.L. James is an affirmation of the willingness of women to forgo cynicism when it comes to love. We like stories where guilt is followed by redemption and sex is tied to emotion, not pornographic tales of domination and submission."
I'm sure there are readers who do enjoy pornographic tales of domination and submission, and that's fine, but I don't think Fifty falls into that category. Certainly explains why BDSM only works for me in the context of some stories and does absolutely nothing for me in others. |

It is strange, in the romance community, the hate for this book. I know 10+ people in RL who read the series, that don't read romance. The recommendations I give out to those people won't be the authors who bashed the book and it's readers. And that is shooting yourself in the foot. _________________ "As you wish"

I always thought that the actors from Twilight should not be in this movie but I've changed my mind. So far I haven't seen anyone who I could believe was Christian but I can believe Robert Patterson is Christian!!OMG!I was going to ask you guys what you thought but now I don't want to know. I'm afraid you won't like it. Only say something if you like it. K? |

Interesting indeed, I admit, I'm starting to build hope that the movie may not suck!

Enjoyed this article! 10 reasons 'Fifty Shades of Grey' has shackled readers
http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/story/2012-07-09/fifty-shades-of-grey-el-james-summers-hottest-book/56119174/1
Especially the closing statement quotes Christian -
So before you dismiss Fifty Shades as silly or demeaning having never read a word, here's Christian Grey's advice: "We are consenting adults and what we do behind closed doors is between ourselves. You need to free your mind and listen to your body."
