Maggie Boyd commented in her recent review that it's hard to find.
I just checked out Dave Freer, Cuttlefish -- it is new and different, with the science being plausible.
Basically, it's alternate history, set in 1953, mostly taking place on a coal-powered submarine. There's a British Empire with a different ruling family (a note at the end gives the basic history of how it developed) in which a methane burst started global warming early.
Don't look for major romance: the boy and girl are not quite fifteen and don't get past fully-clothed kisses, and only a couple of those. You will find mutual respect and affection between them. |
