I've just read Don't Stop The Music by Jane Lovering -it won the RONA in the UK for best romantic novel of 2011. Jane won the RomCom category first and I don't see it as a comedy. It's a brilliant book -hooked me from the start - but not especially funny. There was amusing and witty dialogue but no outright laughs.
Have I misunderstood RomCom ? What do you think makes a RomCom?

Don't Stop The Music was one of the best romances I've read lately. Wonderful book but never a comedy. The tone of the writing appears light but the story itself isn't. Both hero and heroine are deeply troubled and that does not make for a comedy.
A RomCom should contain IMO some conflicts, but the mood should be light, not only the writing stile. |

That's exactly what I thought. Christina Jones writes RomCom but Jane Lovering doesn't -or didn't with Don't Stop The Music. I wonder if we are in the minority as the book was short listed for the Melissa Nathan RomCom awards.
