Has anyone read “The Midwife” by Carolyn Davidson? Historical Romance Writers hints at a dark secret in the heroine’s past. I liked the blurb and the reviews I saw but I hate then finding out the dark secret was something stupid, like she almost succumbed or she was illegitimate. And then holds on to the secret forever and ever with her excuse, he can’t love me if he knows. So I guess, I am asking for a spoiler.

If memory serves; There may have been some tragedy in leah's early efforts as a midwife. Maybe?
