@Eggletina:
Did you mean the chronology for the books or just the events in book 4? Please let me know. Thanks.
By looking at the actual books, I came up wth the following:
The epilogue for Hart's book is dated June 1885, and Hart is holding his six-month old son Alec.
Then in the author's note: "One of the most contentious debates in England in the 1880s was the question of Irish Home Rule. There were those like William Gladstone, prime minister during the time in which the Mackenzie series is based, who wanted to give Ireland some independence...."
"I borrowed Gladestone's struggles with Irish Home Rule for this story and moved them a few years earlier."
Ian and Mac's books both start in 1881, and Cam's in 1882. |

Thanks for the timelines, Eliza and LordRose. Those are helpful. I was thinking about the chronology for the entire series, such as ages, when certain pivotal events took place (e.g., Hart's engagement to Eleanor, etc.). The timeline was a little muddled in Hart's book. Sometimes Hart and Eleanor would think in such a way that it sounded like their engagement happened only 8 or 10 years ago and not a little further back, but I knew that didn't make sense if Hart's father died in 1874 which is clearly mentioned in the book.

Yes! Drives me crazy, too. Although I'm usually under such time constraints that I often don't have time to slow down and assimilate the data the way I'd like. I've learned the hard way that I can't trust myself to remember, especially when I'm not reading series books back-to-back. |
