| Odd Thomas. I saw the ending coming (the Sixth Sense anyone?) but I was still devastated. I don't think I've ever met a hero as devoted as Odd. |

| The most frustrating ending in the finished SciFi series was in the Exordium series by Sherwood Smith and Dave Trowbridge. I don't want to go into spoilers, but let's just say that even after five books practically nothing was resolved. Imagine Lucas ending the original trilogy with Empire Strikes Back and you'll get the picture. Perhaps the authors counted on writing more sequels, but they left too much room for them. |

Cameron Dean wrote a 3-book vampire series that included Passionate Thirst, Luscious Craving, and Eternal Hunger. The first two books hooked me & I was anxious to see how things would be resolved in the final book for the hero & heroine. When I finished the 3rd & final book in the series I felt completely ripped off. I was so angry that I had wasted my time. I will never read the author again.
I hated, hated, hated how the final book ended. **SPOILER**
The hero gets killed in the end. Yeah, no HEA, not even a glimmer of hope. What a waste.
I read & loved A Knight in Shining Armor. The ending was not completely hopeless, it just wasn't the typical HEA that we all enjoy. I didn't love the ending, but I wasn't frustrated to the point of quitting the author forever, just based on this one book. (Eventually I did stop reading her books. She used to be one of my favorite authors, but really changed her writing style. I know that her son died. I can't help but speculate that she was changed so much by that loss that she just isn't able to write the type of books that she used to. How sad.)
I hated how Odd Thomas ended, but I didn't swear off Dean Koontz. After all, his books aren't marketed as Romance. (SKRABS - Have you read the most recent Odd Thomas book? If so, are you thinking what I'm thinking? LOL)
I did stop reading the Grant County series, by Karin Slaughter after I read the 6th entry, Beyond Reach. Even though her books aren't marketed as Romance, I still was beyond frustrated at the end. *SPOILER* Sara & Jeffrey had faced so many obstacles during the previous 5 books, it was awesome to finally see them obtain some happiness together. Then...BAM! Jeffrey is killed in the last three pages. OMG!! I can't believe I invested my time in that series.
I still think that Slaughter is a good writer, and I have read her Will Trent series. I just won't pick up any other Grant County entries.
Edgar Sawtelle is another book that disappointed in the end. I really enjoyed 90% of the book, but the ending was a complete "WTF??" for me. I would still read other books by this author, but I would probably look for spoilers prior to reading them. |

Almost Paradise by Susan Isaacs. I know it's not a romance but I went through the wringer with those people and the ending made me miserable.

For me, The Marriage Bed by Laura Lee Guhrke had a terrible ending. Yes, the adulterous hero redeemed himself, but it was out of love for one of his mistresses rather than the heroine.

Then be forewarned, Wendy, that her upcoming book Undone is merging the Grant County series with the Will Trent one. Just so you know. Sara from Grant County will apparently be featured, but I don't know who else from that series. |

Count me in as #4, I think it's a large reason why I'm thinking of donating my books to the library now, just sort of tired of it all I guess. This ridiculous ending didn't help.

I'm not sure I'd call this the worst ending, but I definitely agree with Mark that I was very upset and didn't like it at all. I didn't continue with the series because of this. |

Have to agree that Ward's Lover Unbound was pretty lame. I also seem to recall that I was somewhat bemused by the end of Lord Ruin by Carolyn Jewel, a book I otherwise enjoyed quite a bit. It seemed really abrupt and I remember thinking "That's it? That's how she's going to end it?".

I think it was an early Edith Layton, maybe even her first, that has an epilogue where the hero has died and the children of the love triangle end up together, if that makes sense.
JR Ward, I lost interest after Wellsie died (I think that was her name). |
