A short while back AAR posted a blog about internet privacy, the Goodreads bullying controversy, and a controversial blog that popped up in response.
The link for that is here: http://www.likesbooks.com/blog/?p=8521

I thought this article might be of interest: http://www.news.com.au/national/it-just-makes-me-happy-when-i-can-make-someone-angry-a-special-investigation-into-the-dark-world-of-trolling/story-fndo4eg9-1226283852843

A quick summary of the article is that there are people on the Internet, who get their jollies from deliberately annoying and hurting other people.
I don't know why it surprises me that people actually get a bang out of aggravating other people. Maybe it doesn't. I knew this girl in college who confessed to me that she would go to the library and mess up the magazines that I had worked on stacking (my college work-study job) just because she thought it was fun. With the anonymity that the internet provides, people are willing to go a lot further to have fun at someone else's expense. Still, I am amazed at how far some people will go.

It's sad, isn't it? I guess these people are just trying to get out their own frustration but it's hard on everybody else.

One thing I found interesting about the Stop the GR Bullies was that the woman behind really doesn't see herself as a bully. The fact is, she is one of the worst cyber bullies out there popping up all over to "defend" herself against anyone who disagrees. It's appalling.

I found that article on film critic, Roger Ebert's Facebook page, (sorry, I can't figure out how to link to it), and the comments were surprising. So many self-proclaimed trolls consider it their duty to point out the stupidity of the people they are trolling and seem to consider it perfectly acceptable behavior.

Just wow!
