Enjoying the quotes and pictures floating around dedicated to the series. My favorite from today -

“There's a joy in my helplessness, joy in my surrender to him, and to know that he can lose himself in me the way he wants to. I can do this. He takes me to these dark places, places I didn't know existed, and together we fill them with blinding light. Oh yes...blazing, blinding light."
― Anastasia Steele on Christian Grey, Fifty Shades Darker

OH EM GEE, OH EM GEE I just had the bestest idea!!!!!! I thought - what about having 50 SHADES OF GRAY NAILS!!!! Is that not the awesomest or what??

The only trouble is I don't think the mani/pedi places have 50 shades of gray so I'm thinking they will have to get some red and pink in there too. And of course I'll have to have them somehow lengthen my nails since I only have 20 between my fingernails and toenails so they won't be able to get 50 Shades on them without doubling up. But still

I'm going to see if they can do it. It will be the very bestest of the best thing!!!

OH EM GEE, OH EM GEE, OH EM GEE I just had another fantastical idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Instead of colouring my hair - because if I don't - it's well - gray!! I could HAVE IT COLOURED GRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Razz Razz Razz Razz Razz Razz Razz Razz Razz

I could have my hairdresser - I just adore the way she does my hair - make up 50 shades of gray!!!!! So then I would be a walking advertisement with my 50 Shades of Gray Nail Polish to match my 50 Shades of Gray Hair!!

What do you all think? Is that not the OH EM GEE bestest idea to honour the book?

I understand the frustration with the 50 Shades discussion, I really do. After all, it's hard to call something "discussion" when most of the posts come from 1 poster. However, I think we all need to take a deep breath, get back to discussion and away from personal confrontation.

If we have a poster who wants to discuss 50 Shades in great detail with a likeminded friend, perhaps they should think about taking some of that to DM. And while I really do understand the temptation, snarking every single comment posted just escalates things, so I have to ask that this stop as well. Thank you!

Lynn - I am truly saddened that again I am the one being scolded when two of the people who have kept this going, who have been bullies to others who don't agree with them are allowed to go along without anything being said to them. I have loved this place since I very first discovered it years ago but I have never felt the frustration and anger that I do now.

We did have a discussion in which such diverse posters as Dick and Rosario also posted their frustration and who were the ones scolded? Dick and I. Yet despite this Xina and Linda continued on. It's not the other posters in this thread I find frustrating - if you are reading this please believe me. But when I am warned and they aren't? It is not right Lynn.

I have always handled tough times with humour. When my father died unexpectedly, I tried to remember the funny times as this was how I was raised and I knew he was smiling along with me. When my husband died, we were able to laugh even amongst the heartbreak. The was one of the things he loved about me - making him laugh even in unlaughable situations.

So I don't know how else to handle this situation except to laugh at the unlaugable. Truly Lynn - it's either that or crying over leaving a place I've loved so much for so long and allow these two posters to keep bullying others and chase long time followers away because of their actions. Because that is what is happening.

So here's a thought - if they will stop, I will. If they don't neither will I and the admin at AAR will have to ban me, I am that upset at what I see happening here.

Kristie - You are not "The One" being scolded and I'm sorry if you took it that way. As I mentioned above, it's not much of a discussion if it's just a chat between 2 friends. I was not implying that you were the one causing that particular problem because you obviously weren't, and the suggestion that some of this go to DM was directed at others, not at you.

As I tried to convey in my previous post, I undertand the frustration and I can also understand wanting to combat it with humor. However, I'm currently trying to walk that line between folks blowing off steam and having a giant blowup. I wasn't trying to wag the finger at you; I'm just trying to defuse the situation.

Oh good grief Kristie, why do you even care what's said in this thread? I don't understand why you even continue to look inside since it so obviously makes your blood boil as you've mentioned. I genuinely enjoy the discussion here and I'm not going to be bullied or ridiculed away from it, if that's what you're hoping to achieve. We were asked to lay off the snark and passive aggressive posting and I said I would and I meant it. It looks like you're not quite to that point yet but when the time comes to point fingers about the attitude on the board it's no longer going to be laid at my feet.

We're alll big boys and girls here--we really can handle this. Don't like the threads? Don't visit them. Like the threads? Keep visiting. I'm not seeing a problem. Okay, they stay at the top, but so do those "sticky" notes which should drive people crazy, too. But we look past them, as we should with these two threads if there is no personal interest in them. Continuing to dwell negatively on them on the boards just creates a bigger monster. Let them go and move on to other topics that may be more to one's appeal.

Kristie, I always enjoy your posts, even when we're not in agreement. Leaving the forum for something this small is totally not worth it, unless you just can't refocus here. I seriously hope you reconsider. There are other things being discussed in other threads that may have more of a draw for you.

Just recently finished "Fifty shades of Grey" and really loved it. It seemed to be original, not the usual stuff. However, not so original to explain all the hoopla surrounding it. More amazing than the book is the attention it garnered, also it is surprising that so many people have read it. I really loved it, but I think there are a lot of other romances out there that are equally compelling and perhaps a tad better written (in terms of style and word choice). I guess that has all been discussed already, so I'm fine if you would give me the link to a discussion that already covers my question.

As to the sequel "Fifty shades darker", I don't think it to be as suspenseful as the first book. I know I couldn't put down the first one while I can easily lay my kindle aside now. It seems much more predictable and romanc-y. And darker it is so not. The first part was dark at times because you saw two people in love whose life style were basically incompatible, besides the heroine was forced to keep it all a secret. Also, a boyfriend who is seriously into BDSM is actually not something you like to talk about with your Vanilla friend and parents. There are not very many taboos out there but I think BDSM is still not generally accepted. For me it was the classical amour fou and I really loved that. The second part is much more conventional IMO.
