Noooooo ...
My pet peeve for today is when authors I like (and by like I mean I BUY their books, I READ their books and I RECOMMEND their books) slam or snark #50Shades on twitter. I've given up caring whether publishing executives and the twitterati bitch about #50Shades -- altho if you want my opinion, I think the twitterati should say whatever the heck they want -- as for publishing executives, if they think slamming a book endears "their" books to new readers, I can assure them it doesn't* but oh well.
Back to those authors -- what's the point? Why call it porn or say that Sylvia Day's book is "Like 50Shades only it's better" -- why? You know I bet there are a lot of folks out there that like both. Why label one better? Does that make my taste worse? I'm guessing the answer is yes.
* I don't want to hear I thought we were past only nice-girl commenting -- I get that. I'm just saying I personally wish if authors I like were going to take a stand they'd at least not mock it or misrepresent it because I find that so gauche. It's really not obligatory to say anything at all. |

Janet, I miss all that, I only follow a couple authors on Twitter and they are of the Urban Fantasy genre. I agree that it's in bad taste for one author to slam another's work but it doesn't matter what they say, the sales speak for themselves. Probably some jealousy there as well.
Xina, yes Mrs. Brady and she was talking baby oil and I had to listen to only half and then cut it off, lol I grew up watching the Brady Bunch, it just seemed so wrong, haha

A few days ago I read a tweet from an author I haven't read. She said something like...I will judge you if you read 50Shades... and like it. Not exact wording, but that was the gist of it. My initial thought was that this person was a)Sort of an ass and b)Not very smart to put such statements out there publically.Especially since you depend on the public to buy your books and hey, a few of those people may have liked the book. The face that is put out there is the face I will remember when deciding on book purchases, and that face is pretty ugly. And kind of green too. _________________ "As you wish"

Oh, not baby oil! LOL. Yes, this is wrong. Has Betty White had a reading yet? For some reason...she would bother me as much as Mrs. Brady. _________________ "As you wish"

The official facebook page of FSoG says this is a tv commercial. The heavenly choir in the background cracks me up!!
http://youtu.be/_EWVvtSSHm4
Unrelated - I'm almost done with Effortless right now and I like it more so than Thoughtless. It's been a different kind of love story that's for sure but it's kinda nice to have something different.

Nice! The choral music is by Thomas Tallis (1500's) and that's Red Room music. LOL! I love the red background too. What a great book commercial! Thanks for posting it Linda.
I'm interested in those books too. Something different. _________________ "As you wish"

http://lareviewofbooks.org/article.php?id=724&fulltext=1 I will admit to having a shockingly short fuse for critical articles about 50Shades from pundits who haven't read the books. Fortunately, book critics still feel the need to read before passing judgment. OK, deep breaths, this is a very interesting and accurate article that really sums up the reality of the 50 reading experience.
And perhaps appropriate that it's a LA paper since E. L. James is scheduled to appear at Comic Con in San Diego ...
Liked the ad -- simple and invitational.
Edited for spelling. |

Ohhh I see, now it makes sense! lol I never looked up the music mentioned but keep meaning too.
You're free to borrow Thoughtless and Effortless anytime. I will say that the author doesn't let the heroine off easy for her actions and by mid way through the 2nd book I started to like her again.

Oh, sorry...just saw this. The author? I can't remember. Not well-known. I will try to backtrack on Twitter and get back to you. Anyway, an author on my "don't buy..ever" list. _________________ "As you wish"

Oh, very good! It puts a face on what the actual film could be like. Thanks for posting this.
Your question....LOL, I don't know! There always seems to be news about the author, the books, and the up and coming movie. That's a lot to talk about. _________________ "As you wish"

We have a Fifty thread once again becoming hard for some of our readers to load. So, does someone want to start the fifth Fifty thread? I'll need to lock this one after a couple of more posts.

| I checked a couple of them and you quickly get an idea of how cool the movie could be ... I read that E.L. James said that Robert P and Kristin S would not be considered for Christian and Ana and I think that's good. Almost all of the male actors who have been mentioned would do a great job imo. |

I read that too Janet! I don't think they fit either. I'd like to see others in the role. I have a few in mind, as does anyone who love the series.
So, I'm going to swing us into #5 on the Fifty thread. here we go.... _________________ "As you wish"
