I didn't find her writing awkward (I hesitate to call it "porn"). As for the spelling error, I see authors do it all the time. Whether that was a typo or what, who cares?

This is one case where I will have to disagree. I view the author's website as her public face. While we all make mistakes, the correct spelling of a classic author's name is easy to determine with a quick Internet search, and I'm sure a number of people have pointed out the error. I therefore take it as a lack of respect for her readers or for the author who laid much of the groundwork for those who came after her, that I do care that it has not been corrected. If this were a labor-intensive change I'd be more sympathetic because I know how Life intervenes (sick children, overtime at the day job, etc), but this is so very simple that there does not appear to be an excuse not to fix it.

Please note that my comment does not relate at all to Ms. Valdez's books. I haven't read them so have no comment about the quality of her work. I did not find the excerpts appealing, but that just means they did not appeal to me, and we all know how individual our tastes in reading are.

Yes, thanks for putting this better and more diplomatically than me. I stepped on some toes in here with my comments. I tend to be pretty blunt when I don't like somebody's writing. But apart from my subjective feelings and thoughts about the writing it does give a poor impression when a professional website has such errors. If I spell words and names wrong and use bad grammar it reflects poorly on me and my education and intelligence. But few people other than myself and family and employers will care. But many people probably read Valdez' website. Some may not care, but some will.

It's hard enough to sell books. Why come across as unprofessional and careless when a simple spell check would take care of the mistakes?

I don't see where you stepped on any toes. Well, your reaction to the misspelling is different than mine, and that is fine. I happen to like her work and where you say you are blunt when you don't like an author's writing, I tend to give them leeway when I do. And that's fine too. I will still buy her books when it is all said and done. To each her own. It's no biggie to me, at all.
