I haven't read any books by Carla Kelly and would like to rectify that.
I'm having a hard time deciding where to start so suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

I Like Historicals set in Europe and prefer books where the H/h don't have children or if they do the children don't play a very major part in the book.
(I do make exceptions regarding children if the books are highly recommended.)

Pet Peeves:

Abusive H/h
Forced seduction or all out rape (at the hands of the "hero")
Secret Baby

The good news is this: you'll never have any of your pet peeves, "Abusive H/h, Forced seduction or all out rape (at the hands of the "hero"), Secret Baby" in a Carla Kelly book. That's totally not her style.

Unfortunately, most of Carla Kelly's books do feature children. Like you, Ash, I'm not a big fan of plot moppets. However, I have never minded the children in Carla Kelly's books, because they are so... real. Not moppety, if you will. So here are a few recommendations with children:

Mrs. Drew Plays Her Hand
One Good Turn
Mrs. Milton Speaks Her Mind

I recently finished Reforming Lord Ragsdale. It's the only Carla Kelly book I've read (so far) and I very much recommend it.
