I’m surprised we’ve not reviewed this one. It’s beloved by many.

Leander, Lord Charrington has a problem. Raised to be a charming diplomat, women fall in love with him.

He, however, seeks a marriage of convenience with a sensible woman with whom he can live on honest terms.

The impoverished widow, Judith Rossiter, Angel Bride of poet Sebastian Rossiter, seems ideal. Still dressing in black, she remains devoted to her dead husband, and she has children to provide for.

Judith Rossiter thanks heaven for the earl’s offered escape from disaster. Though her story is not what the earl believes, the terms of his agreement—to not fall in love with him—seem simple enough. Or so she believes on her wedding day . . . .

Love enemies to lovers AND a marriage of convenience? Here you go! (We gave it a B+.)

Trope alerts: frenemies to lovers and marriage of convenience. Those two tick your boxes? Then, to be frank, you can skip my review and go to “buy now” because this one is a fabulous example of both tropes and how they can work together. Indifferent on them? Then let me try to convince you otherwise.

Stefanie Ferguson is the youngest daughter of a Dallas political family and the one always causing trouble, rarely through any fault of her own. The latest scandal involves an ex, but it’s essentially the last straw for her public figure brother. Changes, he decrees, have to be made. Enter her sister-in-law, who is also the family PR consultant, who suggests a quiet marriage of convenience. Surely in Stefanie’s vast social network there has to be one fellow worthy of the project and who will help Stefanie project an air of settling down and taking life seriously.

It turns out there’s not.

Also cooking along in the background is an annual Christmas party she throws in San Antonio and will not give up despite the publicity. Her brother’s solution is to send Emmet Keaton, his best friend and head of security. While this initially annoys Stefanie to no end – Emmet’s an annoying grump – she gets an idea. What if Emmet was the husband?

Emmet is not super thrilled about his new assignment. Stefanie is annoying and flighty. Sure, she’s hot, but she’s his best friend’s little sister and he has no time for her shenanigans. Until they get to San Antonio and he discovers it’s not a socialite Christmas party at all. She’s just been using that as a cover to provide a dream Christmas dinner for under-resourced people. She begs him not to tell her family – this dinner is not a publicity tool – and he begins to see the human underneath the wrappings. So, he agrees to this marriage.

And then…

Well, you just have to read to find out, don’t you?! It’s a Blaze title, so the sex is steamy and athletic. If you’ve read the two previous books in Ms. Lemmon’s series, then the family scenes will be richer for you, but if you haven’t then you won’t be lost. Like I said up top, this book is just a ton of sexy holiday fun. One-click and enjoy.

We gave this one a B+ too.

What She Wants for Christmas is an idiotically titled book, that is, nonetheless, a very touching story of striving and acceptance.

Teresa Burkett has just moved her small family from the big city to the small town of White Horse. Her ten-year-old son is fine with the move, but her teenage daughter, Nicole, is less pleased with her new surroundings. Teresa also has her own problems related to setting up her veterinary practice. She bought into a standing practice, but has run into a brick wall of resistance from the local farmers. They don’t want a woman, and a small woman at that, treating their livestock. Teresa has no clue how to change their minds, and while she sits around, her veterinary partner is overworked.

The Hughes family offers some assistance in initiating Teresa into the community. Teresa meets logger Joe Hughes when she contracts with him to cut down a few of her trees. She’s immediately attracted to him and shows it. They go out, they have a wonderful time, and she starts falling for him – he’s so sweet and so good-looking! Joe is happy to introduce her about and use his extensive community ties to smooth things for her. He also has a teenage nephew who takes an interest in Nicole. All is going great, but Teresa, for all of her infatuation with Joe, still senses that she doesn’t really know him. He’s holding something back. She fears that it’s something serious, and she doesn’t know they can have a relationship if he’s unwilling to communicate with her.

Joe does have a secret, and it’s kind of a big one: he can’t read. He’s severely dyslexic, and school was a nightmare of failure for him. He gets along fine in White Horse because his family has connections and everyone already knows about his limitations. Joe has actually succeeded well beyond anyone’s expectations for him. He was able to start his own logging business, and its done very well. Joe may not be able to read, but he has an excellent head for math. Joe is very self-aware; he knows his boundaries, but he is very much afraid that advanced-degreed Teresa is well beyond those boundaries. What would such a bright, beautiful, well-educated woman want with a dumb logger?
