| Not romance, but Alexander McCall Smith's books often make me smile. His series set in Botswana (the #1 Lady's Detective Agency books) make you feel the warmth of the African sun so would be perfect for reading on a cold winter day. I also like his Sunday philosophy books, in part because of the romance that grows through the series. At one point when I was particularly stressed out, he had a totally unexpected (to me at least) but very happy ending, and I loved it (don't want to say more due as it may be considered spoilers. I will say that one reason I like McCall Smith is that he understands human nature -- he's not naive but he is definitely humane and (usually) optimistic. |

In the past year I've gone outside my comfort zone and read a lot of new-to-me authors. I still come back to SEP, Linda Howard, Lisa Kleypas, Loretta Chase, Anne Stuart for comfort reading.
I have two new comfort authors from my year of reading adventurously -- Ilona Andrews Magic series and Edge series. I'm surprised at how much I love them because they are more UF than I thought I would have been comfortable with. The Proviso by Moriah Jovan is a big epic book with 3 romances. I've read it 3 times. _________________ Diana |

I like Pamela Clare's Surrender and Untamed, but they may be a bit too intense for what you are looking for. |
Can't go wrong with Pamela Clare...ever. The best heroes out there. _________________ "As you wish"

I agree with the posters who feel the best feel goods are romances with humor.
Lyndsay Sands historicals such as The Key, The Deed, Bliss has good humor as well.
Jennifer Crusie Welcome to Temptation, Bet Me, Crazy For You contemporary romance also with good humor.
Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series of course. Bit of a triangle that goes on and on and on...but lots of funny moments.
I think these are good in that they aren't dark or dramatic romances with a terrible secret past etc. But the stories are good too. _________________ Romance my favorite reading pastime. |
