Where the heck are all of these water cool talks happening? I have yet to luck up on one.
I like the fact that there's so much excitement around the movie adaptation. It's fun to discuss all of the possibilities. [/quote] |

Hi guys (Linda, Xina and Likesbadboys)!
Thank you, Linda, for posting that link. A nice review without any literary analysis – he just states that he enjoyed the book (that’s exactly how I feel and don’t analyze why exactly).
Re cover: I find the covers and especially the first books’ cover very simple and elegant at the same time. For a no-name publisher to come up with those covers was genius. No wonder Vintage is keeping them (they do, don’t they?).
But I don’t necessarily agree that part of the books’ success is that they are ebooks. Pretty much all big-name erotica/erotic romance authors have their books published in e-format as well or only in it.
For me personally it was much more successful than other erotic books because it’s has much more of a story and sex is just part of the story, a very integral part. In other erotic books, even romances there was not enough of a story for me to become engaged with the characters and they usually leave me cold. Also there’s more witty dialogue and bantering (including emails) in these books than is typical in erotic fiction.
The only erotica author that I love is Emma Holly. I loved her All U Can Eat – the story and sex were great but it was not nearly as romantic as FS books.
So I finished book 3 and I loved it which surprised me. I did not like book 2 as much as the 1st one and heard that book 3 was even worse so I totally expected it to be a drag but it was not especially after they returned from their honeymoon.
What I noticed was that it was much better edited (I bought already Vintage edition from Kobo). There was maybe a couple typos in the entire book and no run-on words at all.
All the people who are trashing FS books for giving BDSM a bad name should read Fifty Shades Freed or at least the last chapter and the epilogue. I so loved Ana in it – very playful.
When you all guys were saying that you’d love to have a book from Christian’s perspective, I was very skeptical because I thought it would be so repetitive and hence boring. But after I read last pieces of the book from his PoV, I loved them so much that I am now also craving for such a book. He has his own voice, a very distinct one.
So right after I finished it, I decided to disregard all those mountains of paper books and loads of ebooks on my TBR and started rereading FSoG and I am loving it all over again. |

At the end of the trilogy, you realize there's so much that's left out and it's entirely Christian's interpretation of key events. I don't think she'd need to rewrite the entire trilogy from his perspective, but at least one book, probably the first with some elements from the second and third, would be interesting. She could even start before he meets Ana, with glimpses of his past that fill out his character more and prepare us for his reaction to his first real relationship. Lots of possibilities there as shown by the sketches from a young Christian's perspective.
And yes, I reread the trilogy TWICE before moving on to other books. Now I am re-reading the Thoughtless series. Really lucked out with it and FSoG this year.

Wow, a reread already, that's great! LOL I am an avid rereader so I'm sure I'll read this series again but I usually try to wait a little while in between rereads.
I totally agree with you on Erotica and Romantica for that matter, all sex and no plot make for a dull book. Heck, I often skim through love scenes in regular romance novels because I'm eager to get back to the plot. FSoG had a wonderful plot and love story, humor, a delicious alpha male and some steamy love scenes. It's not often we find a book that has it all!
Speaking of Emma Holly, although I am not generally a fan of erotica Menage holds a spot on my keeper shelf, loved that one.

Well in my office we are a water cooler of one, unless the mail carrier happens to be in there in the morning sorting mail, so I wouldn't know, LOL!
I have the feeling discussing the movie will be more fun than the movie itself but hope springs eternal.

Before starting the series, I had read that the third book was terrible, and very poorly written, so I expected it to be a chore to read. I was pleasantly surprised though, and really, really enjoyed it.
As for Christian's POV, I think it might be fun to read. I remember when Kelly Armstrong wrote Clay's POV and posted chapters on her website. It was so great to read what he was feeling and how he felt when he met Elena. It was a nice insight into his thoughts. So, I would like that very much. *hint, hint author* _________________ "As you wish"

Xina, Kelly A's story from Clay's POV was awesome! I downloaded the 3 PDFs from her site while they were free and still keep them on my ereader for rereads. I really wish she had done a male centered series insetead of the women of the otherworld because she is realy good at writing men.
Back to the Fifty books, I just read the most wonderful spot on review that I've seen yet. Here is the link -

I loved Bitten, and have read it many times. Agree that she is really good at writing men. I hope she has a long writing career ahead of her. She is one of my favorites. I have to admit at not keeping up with every book she writes, although....I have bought the paper copies and have others donwloaded, so I still support this author. I am savoring the books, I think. Cabin reading...it is all about the alone time at the cabin. LOL
As to the Fify review. What a beautiful review. Love it. Thanks for posting
it!
Interesting......I was at my cabin in the great north woods this weekend...opening it, and all, and went to my favorite (and only) bookstore in the nearest town, and LOL....what books were displayed on checkout counter in a huge pile? (in this tiny northern town)...Fifty Shades Of Grey. I had to laugh. Can we say Popular, if it reaches out this far??? _________________ "As you wish"

Xina, I'd say number one on the NY Times Bestseller List is pretty damn popular!
http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/overview.html
My friend who I talked into reading them in ebook form loved the series so much she purchased the print copy of the first one. . I warned her it will be a dry spell for a while trying to find something as good.
I love it when a rec turns out to be such a success!

I agree!
I too have a friend who bought the paper copy and she also has a digital copy. My daughter paged through one of the copies at the checkout at that bookstore. I'm not sure it's something she would like.
The author will be on The Today Show tomorrow talking about the series. I'm interested to hear her views on the popularity of her books. _________________ "As you wish"

I may purchase the paper copy as well. I have digital and print copies of a lot of my favorites, plus the cover design of FSoG is really nice.
I randomly heard a reference to the series on Carson Daly's radio show this morning. It's official: everyone is talking about this book now. Very happy for the author. |

Cool!
I almost purchased the paper copy when I had a B&N coupon but I really do not have much more room for books, which is why I've gone to the ereader. I did get my Entertainment Weekly edition I ordered with it on the cover, for fun. )
