Confirmation that James did sell the rights to Universal and Focus Films for around $5 million. I'm encouraged by the fact that she made a deal that allows her a lot of influence on the script and casting. |
Wow, over casting too! This sounds great, I hope it can come through on film true to the books. Isn't she a tv producer? She ought to have a good background here.

I saw that yesterday. I think it's really exciting. They are going to have to do something really creative to play it out on screen. Should be interesting. _________________ "As you wish"

Yesterday I was in my Barnes and Noble browsing the shelves by the help desk and 2 people came in asking for Fifty Shades Of Grey. One of them was a guy...middle-aged, well dressed. I thought that was amusing.
edited to add...The employee gave a long suffering reply and said, yes..we'll have it by April 14th (or 15th..can't remember). I'm assuming they have been asked that question quite a bit. _________________ "As you wish"

Xina: thank you for posting this. I like all the attention this book is getting - first, because I enjoyed it so much, and second, because it's a romance book. When did we have a romance book with this much of media coverage?
I agree with EL James completely when she says, 'It’s a romantic fantasy story. That’s it. It’s just a fun read. I don’t see it as erotica. I see it as a contemporary romance.' That's exactly how I see this book. I don't understand all this 'Oh, it's shockingly graphic and it's porn, etc.' that was in some other articles linked on this thread.
Linda: my initial thought was that man was looking for the book for his wife or girlfriend. I think that would be a great gift from a boyfriend/husband. |

Linda and mirole..I thought the same, that the man was looking for the book for a woman. Although, he didn't seem at all shy about asking for it.
As for the cover of EW, Hoda and Kathy showed it on their part of The Today Show today. And Hoda said she read it and loved it. Wow. This book is getting attention. _________________ "As you wish"

They are faux-casting Christian Grey. Out of this crop, my personal choice would be Henry Cavill. Ryan has the acting chops, but I am not sure he's a Greek god. Chris Pine is also very handsome, but I don't see him as Christian Grey.

Kellan Lutz and Alex Pettyfyr: Heck NO.
Dear God, please do not let Hollywood give us a Disney Christian. They need to be looking for the kind of sensuality and animal magnetism that a young Mickey Rourke had in 91/2 weeks! I don't want teenage girl sexy, I want grown woman sexy. Sheesh. |

Kellan Lutz, OMGee NOoooooo!!! LOL I don't mind the Alex guy so much and while I think Ryan Gosling is quite handsome he's handsome not in a classic way. Though I bet he would have the charisma of a young Mikey Rourke in the role, he can emote.

How about Hayden Christensen for Christian? I think he has that intense brooding thing down and he is the right age. Here's a link since I can not seem to figure out how to paste an image.

The poll for who should be cast as Ana:
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20582757,00.html
Amanda Seyfried would be a good choice if they dyed her hair brown. Ana thinks of herself as a plain girl, but she clearly recognizes that her blue eyes are what stand out in her face, and of course her lips for Christian. I feel like that's true for Amanda too. . Plus, I feel like she projects innocence and youth, but would probably do well with the sensuality the role would require.
This is kind of fun, although I doubt that any of these stars will actually be used. I think they should consider Emilia Clarke from the Game of Thrones series on HBO:

LikesBadBoys: I know that objectively speaking, Amanda Seyfried is a beautiful woman but I will not watch the movie with her. There is something in her face that makes her very unattractive for me, I think it's that her eyes are set two wide. It's the same with Michelle Pfeifer, she spoilt The Age of Innocence for me and I cannot now read the book either.
Of all the actresses on People poll and Emilia Clarke, it's hands down Emilia Clarke. |

LOL, I know how you feel mirole. I'm glad E.L. James gets to be involved because casting is so important in this case, so is the chem testing they'd have to do for the leading roles. When they were filming The Notebook, I heard they always had Ryan Gosling in mind, but they didn't choose Rachel McAdams (who I LOVE as a romantic leading actress, but would read as too mature for this role), until after she and Ryan took the roof off with their chemistry.
I just think they need a fresh face for Ana, someone who is not overexposed. I feel like the People list is full of who's hot and who's waifish. I never thought of Ana as blatanly either one of those things. I think she's supposed to be fresh with an innate sensuality; not staggeringly beautiful, but quietly and naturally lovely. That's why I'd pick an unknown or a not that well known for the role. Emilia Clarke is actually a British actress. Her hair is white-blonde on the HBO show, so she's not that recognizable on the Hollywood scene.

For some reason, he looks like a young boy to me no matter how old he gets. Christian is going to be so hard to cast. He's supposed to be drop dead, turn around and drop your mouth gorgeous. Everyone has such different ideas of what that means, so they are going to have a hard time pleasing everyone. Another suggestion I've been seeing a lot is Matt Bomer. He's very handsome, but I've never seen any of his work: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0093589/
He is definitely classically good-looking, however I'd hate for them to focus on that alone when they cast since Christian is such a complex character. Henry Cavill still gets my vote at this point. |

Ohhhh I like this guy, yes I can see him as Christian! Provided he can act of course!

Xina, glad you have enjoyed the first two, I was wondering! I hope you like the 3rd moe so than I did, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Hi Linda, I've been meaning to wade through this entire thread to ask you why you didn't like the 3rd book as much as the first two. Actually, I enjoyed the 3rd book very much. Loved Christian as a father in the epilogue. Such a nice wrap-uo. It's been more than a week that I finished the series, and I really, really enjoyed them. The only complaint I have is that it was overly long. I think it could have been cut a bit, but other than that, I came away with very good feelings. I was with my DIL today and asked her if she has heard of it. She told me that a co-worker was reading it, but that co-worker told her she probably would not like all the sex, but it was a great book. (Fifty Shades) She sort of laughed, because her co-workers don't know she reads romance. The sex in this book, is pretty much like a Hot romance novel. Anyway...she's reading it on her Kindle now.
Loved the series and this couple. I am in the Love side of this. I can see the appeal...very much. _________________ "As you wish"
