Her (Friday Harbor) book. I'm interested sounds really good. But I don't see the reviews out so wanted to know if anyone ordered this one.
Thanks in advance. _________________ Romance my favorite reading pastime. |

I've got it on my list to order when it comes out on the 28th! I think it's so cool that the heroine is a glass artist.

Ahh you know I just realized it hasn't been released yet. LOL I was wondering how Amazon had all these reviews out so fast on it and just assumed it was out.
I think I'm going to order it sounds like a good set up. _________________ Romance my favorite reading pastime. |

| Just today, I looked on goodreads, and see that there are numerous ARC's that have been distributed, and thus the reviews appear therein. I love, love Lisa Kleypas (historicals and contempories - esp, Jack Travis Smooth Talking Stranger), but there is a mention of "magic" which I do not know how it plays into the story. I read PNR and fantasy all the time, too, so it shouldn't bother me at all, its just that she has not used that type of element in any of the novels I have read to date. |

I'm curious about this too, though from the short video on B&N she gave the impression it would be subtle.

| I just hope it's going to be a hot book. The last contemp was barely lukewarm, and Lisa is actually one of those authors who excel at passion. |

I too look forward to hearing what folks on this board think once they've read this book. I really love Kleypas's work, including the last contemporary trilogy, but I'm feeling hesitant about this possibly new direction. The Amazon reviews are all over the place (as usual), but these particular comments below concern me since this type of story isn't usually a match for me.
"Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite authors and there's simply nothing she could publish that I won't read. Although she's made a nice foray into contemporary romance, if you're a die hard fan of her steamy historical novels, this series is very different in style and content. Instead of the laser focus on romantic chemistry and impossible odds, this is more of a family drama and natural progression."
"This is a slow paced, whimsical story, with a lot of historical reflection on the character's upbringing and the events that are shaping their lives. Lucy and Sam only have about 15 pages together in the first 100 or so, and months can pass between chapters, so if you're looking for instantaneous combustion when they meet, you're not going to get it here. Their chemistry builds at a realistic pace and is interweaved with friends, family and drama."
OTOH, the same reviewer says, "There's also the addition of magic to the story that I'm not convinced is necessary to the storyline and makes it seem a little too Hallmark channel. Compared to classic Kleypas, this reads more like three stars, but compared to other contemporary romances, it's easily a four. It's a refreshing, feel good story, without plot manipulations and dreaded misunderstandings, and makes for the perfect read for curling up with a cup of hot chocolate. " |

Yes, I read that particular review. There are a lot of enthusiastic reviews though too that praise the romance between Lucy and Sam. As for the focus on family - Kleypas had that in her historical romances about the Wallflowers and the Hathaways too, so it's not exactly a new focus.
I am a bit concerned about the addition of magical realism though, that's a tricky thing to pull off well.
I did read the sample chapter and enjoyed it. I am also looking forward to the book about the alcoholic brother Alex and am very interested how Kleypas deals with this troubled character.
It does seem that Kleypas has moved to women's fiction with this series and away from outright romance. You can tell by the covers that these are different from her usual books. |

Well this part sure sounds good to me, I hope I feel the same! Would also be pleased if it rated a lukewarm instead of a hot.

You mentioned some of the things that concern me about the new books' direction. While I generally enjoy book series, I'm enjoying series with families far less these days, with even the Hathaways not being my favorite Kleypas books. I've also been discovering that women's fiction isn't my cup of tea in general. And I'm more of an historical fan to boot. So while I of course respect LK's right to do what she wants to do (or any author), like some others have said, I sure will miss her historicals. That said, I'll wait to hear what you all have to say once you read the new ones. |

The first two books (Sugar Daddy & Blue Eyed Devil) her last contemporary series also veered more toward Women's Fiction than Romance so it wouldn't be a new direction with her contemporaries. _________________ "My safe word is monkey" |

Not a fan of all her books but loved the Hathaway series and the Wallflower series.
The paranormal worries me a bit because I'm just not into it. If it's just a touch fine but I'd rather not read that in my romances.
I sense it's more women's fiction than actual romance but if it has the element of romance heavy I'm good as well.
Can't wait to hear more about it upon it's release. Thanks all for sharing. _________________ Romance my favorite reading pastime. |

"veered more toward Women's Fiction"-----Yeh, I got that and although I still liked her writing in those books, still...not quite the direction I want to go in. Now I'm curious to hear if the new books steer even closer toward the women's fiction side. |

I enjoyed these far more than her historicals so if this new one is of the same quality I will be thrilled! I should disclaim that I am generally not a fan of historicals so the above isn't meant to criticize her writing, just personal preference.
