I can't give you chapter and verse, but I think most of the authors I read include oral sex as part of the package deal. Read a lovely scene from Stephanie Tyler recently. In fact I notice when an author has the heroine perform fellatlo (another not sexy word) on the hero and he doesn't return the favor. That's just not right. I'm looking at you, Lisa Marie Rice.

Um .... in romance novels it's FAR more likely to be the other way around. Heroes are eager to perform but are often amazingly uninterested in receiving. I suppose that's part of the fantasy.
More generally, this thread - like the one entitled Old Prude Here - simply shows how much tastes differ. Fortunately, the world of romance is diverse enough to accommodate most preferences. |
Um...that was my point. I must not have been clear enough. I notice the
ungrateful male because he is rare in romance written by women for women.
I've brought this up re LMR in other threads. Her heroes are generally so
turned on they can't wait to start thrusting away. No time for foreplay.

Seconded... thats why I like these boards so much. I feel like people can (usually) express their opinions without fear of candor. How many rape posts have there been on this board with posters reminding others that just because the opinion of one poster may not be your own it doesn't invalidate the opinion?
I hate the hero who just jumps in, though I do forgive it for virgin heros. However, sometimes I do think authors can get a little carried away. There was a J.R. Ward book, and the title escapes me, but the hero was going downtown for an inordinate amount of time, and I remember thinking, at what point does the heroine get bored? |

For what, oral sex? If that's what you mean then that's my answer.

Uncomfortable? I don't think so. We've discussed a variety of things here on the boards over the years and there hasn't been a lack of posts. Probably more "uninteresting" (to some of us). A large number of posters in another thread mentioned that continuous sex scenes in a novel have become so commonplace that they actually have become boring and many readers skip over them.
I'm sure for those who still enjoy having these kinds of specific scenes (oral sex) detailed in books will respond to this thread. That's how these threads work. If interested (whether positively or negatively), there will be responses. If no interest--then little or no responses.
As an added note, I too, as with Linda in sw va, didn't particularly care for the guttural response in one of the posts. Not that I haven't heard these things said before (and most likely uttered them occasionally also), for sure. But when you're discussing topics with several different people on a board with whom you're unfamiliar, it's best to remain a bit more neutral with the written language in your message. Just my opinion. |

I'm a twenty-something reader so maybe it's a generational thing? I just read a whole thread on disgust over the "porn" in books so maybe that's a contribution? (Not making a judgment on that sentiment, just an observation!) |
Nope, not a generationl thing. My 23 yr. old daughter won't touch romance novels with a 10ft. pole and I wouldn't label her a prude. Anyway, I think it all has to do with preference. Age has nothing at all to do with it. Hang around long enough and the sex scene * likes and dislikes* discussion come up pretty regularly. _________________ "As you wish"

My 18 year old daughter will not touch them due to the sex scenes, she wanted to know why they had to put all the sex in there, haha. She really loves the classics, some paranormal stuff like Charlaine Harris and Rob Thurman, plus Steph Plum, so we do enjoy a handful of the same authors. I always thought someday she'd take over my bookshelf but I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be interested in most of them as they are romance and a ton of Outlander books. Ah well. As long as she's reading it's all good.

My daughter likes to read gritty fiction. She's on the third book of The Hunger Games now, loved the Girl With Tattoo books. It's funny, she loves romantic movies, but romance novels...nah. I think she thinks the whole concept is a little silly, and that goes for the sex scenes too. The whole idea of the continual HEA doesn't appeal either. Fortunately I have my DIL, who is only a few years older than my daughter, to talk romance novels with. She love them. Although we did read the same book recently, and we were laughing about how many times the word "thrusting" kept popping up. It was quite a bit. LOL.
Oh, and just to add...I tried to get her interested in the Steph Plum novels, but she wasn't interested, although she did like the movie quite a bit. She won't read the Sookie books either, although she watches True Blood with me now. (I think she likes Eric...don't we all?) _________________ "As you wish"

Well, this thread is a good news/bad news kind of thing for me.
I thought it was good news, because maybe I could get some rec's for future reads.
Bad news is that I could only think of one book to add (?), and it was Lori Foster (pretty sure), but can't remember which one. Just remember the scene from the bedroom in her house.
So, I will keep an eye on the thread to take note of any recommendations that are made. I don't really care what anybody wants to call it, although with cunnilingus, you know exactly what is being discussed. Oral sex can refer to giving or receiving, so not as clear in this case.
Thanks. |

Christine Rimmer. Bravo series. I'd have to reread to give specific book input (she seems to have a "formula" so I guess just choose one <g>). That said, these books have a low sex percentage, as discussed in the other thread--what is there, however, is good.

In this context, the name Christine Rimmer made me LOL.
Nothing salient to add, but I will note I sit on a very "Robert's Rules of Order-ian" Foundation Board, and I would love one day to pipe up with "Seconded like a MF." |

ME TOO!
As for additions, one of them has already been mentioned, but the heroes in Pamela Clare's I-Team series aim to please. _________________ "I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal." - Jane Austen

Possibly, but it also may also be the use of the word "cunnilingus" which I think makes most people shudder. But I think it's loads better than it's counterpart "analingus" (shudder). |
Hmmm, not the word I would think of as a *counterpart*.
I don't have a favorite scene off the top of my... er, never mind. But I do remember a very sweet scene in Joanna Novins' Souvenir of Love -- the characters are in a very uncomfortable situation, possibly stowaways on a ship or something like that, and she is horrified when he starts to go down on her because she (quite reasonably under the circumstances) feels unclean. So he very tenderly washes her.
Another memorable scene, for quite different reasons, was in Brenda Joyce's The Prize -- the hero was doing something like gnawing on her clitoris like a dog with a bone. _________________ "I say, don't read the classics -- try to discover your own classics; every life has its own." -- Rudolf Flesch, _How to Make Sense_ |

| To be honest, I've not read any memorable f to male oral sex scenes. To me, it all seems sort of same 'ol, same 'ol. |

I agree. The reason I haven't posted to this thread is because I can't seem to come up with a book with a stand out scene. A lot of the books I read have them, and I enjoy them for the most part. Just can't pick out a particular instance to use as an example. Maybe Lora Leigh....her heroes seem to do a lot of lapping and smelling while at that purpose. _________________ She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain. -Louisa May Alcott |
