Hello everyone, Can you help me find a good book to read? I am in sort of a reading slump. I have read so many paranormal books I am tired of them for now. I finished Stephanie Tyler's "In the air tonight" a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed it and looking for something like that to read. The thing is I have read all books that are similar to her's (Cindy Gerard, Marliss, Melton, etc.). Can you recommend any new authors that write military romance? Romantic/suspense without the military aspect to it is fine too -but I don't want to read about serial killers/evil crazy/psychos, etc. Really, I am in the mood for military heroes. What about Julie Garwood's Ideal man - is this any good? I think I read one book from her but it's been a very long time and don't remember much about it or her writing style. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Debbie

Nobody can write military heroes (often, SEALS) like Suzanne Brockmann in the past. One of my favorite is "Defiant Hero." Here's the review:

I suggest if you want a great book, go to Reviews, right above here, and scroll down to New Reviews, reading anything that gets an A, A- or B+. That's the way I found scads of new authors and new books that I couldn't put down.

However, you can't go wrong with "Defiant Hero."

Lynda- I am not a fan of Suzanne Brockman's books. I read a few of them a while back but stopped. Thanks anyway. If you think of any other authors please let me know.

Thanks
Debbie

Have you tried Robyn Carr books. While most of the individuals are not active duty they are former military.

Virgin River is the first book :

and then Shelter Mountain:

JoAnn Ross writes military heroes:

and then she has a new one out now:

Mary Margaret Daughtridge's SEAL books:
SEALed with a Promise
SEALed with a Kiss
SEALed with a Ring

If you have a nook, B&N has all three bundled together for $9.99.

You might want to check out Amy Fetzer's Dragon One series (former military covert ops) and some of her other books do have active duty Marines as heroes. FWIW, Ms Fetzer is the daughter, wife and mother of Marines, so she know a bit about them (her dad was on the Joint Chiefs IIRC).

Another with former military men as heroes is Lisa Marie Rice and her alterego Elizabeth Jennings.

Shannon McKenna's suspense tales have featured former military men, in particular the heroes of BEHIND CLOSED DOORS and OUT OF CONTROL. But be warned, her heroes are control freaks!

OOPS EDITED TO ADD:

If you don't want to read about creepy psycho villains you may want to skip Shannon McKenna!

Brockmann is an obvious choice, but seeing as how you're not a fan, let's skip that. How about Pamela Clare? Two of the I-team books have heroes who served in the military (Unlawful Contact and Breaking Point).

I read one of Cindy Gerard's books recently and am on the fence about whether to try again - it was sort of C+/B- for me. Any recs from her backlist?

p.s. You might want to edit the subject line of your first post to make it clear to people browsing the forum that you're looking for military romance.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I realize that most of the authors you mentioned like JoAnn Ross, Amy Fetzer, Pamel Clare, Shannon McKenna, etc. I have read their books. I think I may have read most of the military romance books.

I had asked about Julie Garwood's Ideal Man -is it any good? I know it's not military romance - I think it's romantic/suspense and I am also interested in reading this genre. Is there any rom/suspense without serial killers, crazy/psycho? If so, any suggestions? Thanks again. Debbie

I have not read her, but Jessica Scott was voted favorite debut author in the 2011 poll, and her book is a military romance.

I think Catherine Mann is a buried treasure when it comes to military romance. I prefer her category romances, but she also writes single titles for Sourcebooks now. And in the past for Berkley.

I also really love JoAnn Ross. Her High Risk series was especially good.
Freefall
Crossfire
Shattered
Breakpoint

She's continued that same world, but is now writing small town romances with former military heroes.
