So how many watched the season finale last night. I must say I'm in mourning today over the fate of one of the characters last night and still over the fate of another from the week before. I was quite confused at the very ending sequence. If anyone knows what that was about I would be ever so grateful
With the next batch not starting until the sping of 2012, it gives me time to read at least book 1 and 2 I think. |

Are you talking about the scene with Daenerys? If so...

Daenerys is (perhaps) the last of the Targaryen family. Their banner is the Dragon. Remember at the very beginning before she married Drogo when her handmaiden told her the water was too hot for her to bathe in? That was a little foreshadowing of things to come. Then she was given 3 (supposedly fossilized) dragon eggs at her wedding. When Drogo died, she placed the eggs on his pyre, set it on fire and walked into it herself. Because she IS of the dragon, the flames did not kill her. Also, the fire was hot enough to finally hatch the three dragon eggs. So now Daenerys has 3 baby dragons... |

Sweetie - you won't be able to stop. You'll emerge, bleary-eyed, from A FEAST OF CROWS (book 4 in hardback or the 5th book paperback) and then join the rest of us in picketing George RR Martin's house (or at least his blog) to WRITE FASTER, DAMMIT!!! It's been five years for God's sake...
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS currently has a release date of 12 July 2011 on Amazon. I believe that when I can hold the book in my hand. Otherwise, those release dates are all lies - lies, I tell you!
Ahem. Not frustrated at all.
BTW, if you think the first book is bad with the killing off of likable characters, it gets worse. The amount of mental anguish GRRM has put me through is ridiculous. And I still keep coming back for more... _________________ "Socialism to help sick people - bad.

Also (replying to my own post) - remember how Viserys died. He was killed by molten silver, thus proving he was NOT the correct Targaryen heir to re-birth the dragon tradition. |

Agreed, they are like book crack, Lol!
I'm Ok because my favorite two characters are still alive and kicking (although definitely suffered a lot along the way.) You will hear my howl on July 12th if anything worse happens to them!
Oh and if anyone who's read up on the books wants to have a spoilery discussion on personal theories about some yet unsolved mysteries in the series count me in! |

Dany isn't my favorite character on the show but I really liked how things ended up for her last night. How she made it through the fire and hatched those baby dragons. Don't you all think they did a great CGI job with that? The way that first one crept over her shoulder..wow.
I really want the Starks to get revenge on the Lannisters next season for what mad king Joffrey did to Ned. |

I saw the episode this morning [My DH loves Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel, on at the same time.]. It was a great season finale. Remember that the apprentice armorer who left with the Black Watch recruits and Ariya is one of King Robert's bastards.
I have only read about one-third of Book 1, but one scene I do remember from the book is Danny dreaming about dragons and the next day behaving differently because of the dream.

Well GRRM better not touch my two favourite characters or I'll start burning his books and making voudou dolls... I'm pretty sure that my other favourite character will make it all the way through, although who knows - I thought the same thing of others and got sucker punched and literally gasping for breath. I had to laugh at all the reaction from the penultimate episode of the TV series - those guys had it easy: it was much worse with the books. I threw the first book against the wall when I got to that point - and was repeating "this cannot be happening" like a mantra over and over again. And then refused to pick it up again for three days.
That's the thing with Martin - he makes you care so much about these characters even if you KNOW that it's all going to end very very badly. For example, as much as the romance reader in me is shipping a particular unlikely couple like crazy [I'm sure GRRM readers know which one I'm talking about], I'm 99% certain that it's all going to end in complete disaster with my heart ripped out and left bleeding on the floor. But I still can't help rooting for them to somehow work. DAMN YOU MARTIN!!! _________________ "Socialism to help sick people - bad.

I don't want to be spoiled too much but is there any chance of Dany getting together with that guy that is with her, the guy who won that sword fight the other week? I really like him and he's been there for her over and over. |

I don't want to spoil it for you by saying yea or nay but I will tell you they have a lot of adventures coming up. Whether any feelings on either side develops you will have to wait and see (or read).
Hope it's not too spoilery! Also Ian Glen is far more attractive than that character is described in the book! |

OK I can think of a quite a few couples (both somewhat real and some completely made up) that people are hoping for so I have no clue who your favorite may be.
POSSIBLE VAGUE SPOILER*******************************
There's one couple a lot of people are hoping for but I cannot get behind as I am convinced they are going to turn out to be pretty closely related! Is that your couple?
I wouldn't mind seeing an Arya- Gendry romance some years down the line. |

Arya-Gendry would be cute.
As for mine, they're nowhere near to being a real couple at the moment - both being hung up on other people. But they have belligerent sexual tension and the dynamic between them is quite familar to romance readers, which is probably a bad thing for their relationship, or longevity for that matter. What's amazing is that I spent the first two books hating the guy's guts, really really hating him, but GRRM did one of his classic one-eighty in the third book by introducing that character's POV and he's consequently one of my favourite characters now. So he's probably going to get killed off very soon.
I'm pretty sure you know who I mean now... _________________ "Socialism to help sick people - bad.

Ha! Got it as soon as you said "belligerent sexual tension" Lol.
Yes I don't see an easy path for those two but Martin is tricky-you just never know where he is going to go.
I think you can guess the couple I was referring to that other people are shipping but I hope doesn't happen because I believe, as the church used to say, it would go against the laws of "consanguinity." |

| So does Martin write romance withinin his novels like we know in our genre? I mean, I know he's primarily fantasy or whatever genre he writes in but does he do a good job with the romantic parts? |

I was away over the weekend so I didn't get a chance to see the finale until yesterday. Epic! So sorry to see KD go, especially since I'm still mourning ES.
I went out and got the first book, that's how hooked I am. Love Rob, LOVE Jon Snow, adore Ariya, and I'm a little chagrined to say, love Tyrion. If this cast doesn't pull in some serious Emmy love, then I'll never watch another awards show again! _________________ Why put off til tomorrow what you can put off until next week? |
