I'm avoiding royal wedding coverage with great zeal. And yet the book I'm reading as an escape when I can't take the hard news anymore is an historical romance set in England. With a duke in it.
So maybe it's not hypocrisy, but it's a little screwy, right?

Ha! Thats cute. I think its one thing to pick up a book on your terms but this royal wedding hoopla has been shoved at us at every opportunity from the media. Frankly I'm glad it's over so we can stop hearing about it.

Well, I had lunch with DIL today (one of 2 of my RealLife romance novel readers) and we talked about the wedding. I didn't get up at 4am to watch because I had a busy day today, and she didn't either, but we both recognize the romance quality about the whole thing. I guess when you are a hopeless romantic, anything romantic is ahhhh inspiring. oh well...I hope they live Happily Ever After. Really I do.

Xina that's just it, I don't find it romantic at all. It seems more about pressure being under such scrutiny and putting on a big show. Don't get me wrong, I wish them well but as much as any couple that marries that I am not personally close to. I've never been fascinated by royalty and think think it's all pretty silly. JMHO of course!

Nah, the wedding coverage has been annoying, whereas a well-written historical is always nice. I watched part of the coverage yesterday but without commentary, and any news I got came almost entirely from websites that specialize in royal news - they seem more knowledgeable and less gossipy than some of the other sources.
The real-life newlyweds wouldn't have been good romance novel material, considering that today the action of a romance takes place over a limited amount of time rather than almost a decade. I think they were wise to take their time. |

Yep, their love story isn't exactly the most thrilling. Couple meet each other at uni through living in the same dorms and were friends for two years before starting to date. Continue dating for 8 years with a split of a few months. Couple then live together for a bit before getting engaged on holiday. Hmmmnnnnnn... I think I could sell that plotline.

Well, at least there was the underwear modelling thing to give it some excitement, right? But the other youngish European royals do seem more interesting...
Denmark: Australian Mary more or less picked up Crown Prince Frederik in a bar during the 2000 Olympics.
Sweden: Crown Princess Victoria ended up with her personal trainer.
Norway: Crown Prince Haakon married a single mother with a pretty wild past. She's very respectable now, of course.
IIRC, the Spanish prince married a divorced journalist whom he met when she interviewed him. |

I think it's romantic because they appear to be in love. Charles and Di...well, we all know how that turned out, but this couple seems to care for one another, and in that...I see the romance in it. Also, I love to see the dress and her sister Pippa was just gorgeous. I am hopelessly addicted to the show, Say Yes To The Dress, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. I am not that interested in weddings as a rule. I just like the dresses!! And I am not taken with royalty either, but I love the fact that they love one another, I love the music and all that goes with it. I have really enjoyed it. And I really loved Prince Harry and his remarks to his brother. Ah well...it is over, and I had fun with it.

No, a lip reader apparently deciphered them. (And I got this on Twitter, from an author I follow) Harry turned around to look at the bride coming down the aisle and (may have) said, "Wait till you see her" to his brother.

Well, that's just it Linda....I'm not really into weddings either. My mother and sister happily planned mine. I just tried on my dress and it fit and that was that on my part. I hope I can garner some enthusiasm for all the planning by the time my daughter wants to get married (if she does ).
I don't know why I love Say Yes To The Dress. I think it's all the drama the consultants encounter with those hard-to-please brides. Eloping is certainly cheaper. I often wonder who would pay thousands of dollars for a dress that is just worn for a few hours. I get that it's pretty and all, but really, the $$$$ could be used in a more useful place. But I digress......
I would like planning the music for a wedding. That...I would enjoy.

| I doubt I would have watched the wedding anyway, but it took place right after the tornadoes hit in my state of Alabama. I wasn't really up for the HEA right then. |

Thank you. We are all well, although one tornado hit about 4 blocks from my daughter's dorm. It was a very bad day. |
