I got an email with the news my Kindle will be automatically updated with:

Quote:
Real Page Numbers
Many titles in the Kindle Store now include real page numbers, making it easy to reference and cite passages and read alongside someone reading the print book in a book club or class. Page numbers will also be available on our free "Buy Once, Read Everywhere" Kindle apps in the coming months. As with all of Kindle's features, we want you to lose yourself in the author's words, so page numbers and locations are only displayed when you press the Menu button.

Public Notes
This feature lets Kindle users choose to make their book notes and highlights available for others to see. Any Kindle user -- including authors, their fans, book reviewers, professors and passionate readers everywhere -- can opt-in to share their thoughts on book passages and ideas with friends, family members, colleagues, and the greater Kindle community of people who love to read. To review and turn on Public Notes in your own books, view the Public Notes of people you follow, track your reading activities, see Popular Highlights and your annotations, and view your full library of books, go to https://kindle.amazon.com

Before You Go ...
When you reach the end of the book, you can now immediately rate the book, share a message about the book with your social network, get personalized recommendations for what to read next, and see more books by the same author.

New Newspaper and Magazine Layout
A new browsing layout makes it easy to scan newspapers and magazines more quickly.

The only thing I care about is the page number feature--the numbers on the bottom made no sense to me and made it impossible to find a section of the book I was looking for. Other than that, I don't really care about the other added features. But the "before you go" feature might be interesting. Do other ereaders have this feature?

Does anyone care about the update? Should I be more excited? Wink

Hi Merryweather,

I did the update on my Kindle for ipad (I'll have to switch on my actual Kindle to see if the update for that pops up.)

Like you, all I really noticed or cared about in this update was the page numbers. Although I wasn't really missing them (as I am not footnoting anything lately) it is nice to know they are there if I need them.

The "before you go" feature sounds interesting but I haven't tried it so I don't know if it lives up to its press release.

Like you I'm interested to see if anyone else is making great use of the new features.

Have you tried the kindle book lending with your daughter? I haven't tried it yet but I have heard books that can be lent to others are very few and far between.

I have not--does it make a notation if you can lend it when you purchase it? Not sure how it works.

I just went checking out of curiosity to see how the lending works and what is lendable. You can look where you manage your Kindle books on Amazon, you have to hit the plus sign next to the title of the book and if it is lendable there is a button that says "lend this book."

I would say a good 90% or more of mine are not lendable. The smaller presses seem more inclined to allow it.

A few surprises:

All the Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstyne mysteries I have are lendable

The two Zoe Archer books I have, "Rebel" and "Half Past Dead" are. I got them both free so I don't know if that matters at all.

The biggest surprise for me was "Love In The Afternoon" by Lisa Kleypas is lendable! Go Lisa Kleypas! Hers is the only "big name" romance author's book that I have found to lendable. I'll have to see what publisher it is and if all their books are.

Okay, I'll check it out! I don't think my daughter would be remotely interested in any of my books, but it's good to keep in mind. Smile
