The Earl on the Train by Kerrigan Byrne

As a man who’s committed every sin imaginable, he knows his only chance at redemption is the one woman who ever reached through to his soul of ice. He’s kidnapped Veronica Latimer once before, and was enchanted by everything about her… This time, when he takes her, he’ll have to admit that she’s kept his heart captive since the moment they met. But can he convince her to forgive his past in order to claim a future?

The Rigid Duke by Darcy Burke
As a refinement tutor, Mrs. Juno Langton helps young ladies develop the skills and confidence to secure an advantageous marriage. Her cheerful disposition never wavers no matter how challenging her assignment. Too bad the duke is an unsmiling, rigid grouch, albeit an irritatingly handsome one.

Only For His Lady by Christi Caldwell
Damian Renshaw, the Duke of Devlin, is feared by all–all, that is, except Lady Theodosia, the brazen spitfire who enters his home and wrestles an ancient relic from his wall. Intrigued by the vivacious woman, Devlin has no intentions of relinquishing the sword to her. As Theodosia and Damian battle for ownership, passion ignites. Now, they are torn between their age-old feud and the fire that burns between them. Can two forbidden lovers find a way to make amends before their families’ war tears them apart?

A Perfectly Scandalous Proposal by Tanya Anne Crosby
Lady Margaret Willingham is a wealthy heiress, who knows what she wants. No husband. No children. No man to tell her what to do, or how to do it. Forced to marry, or lose her inheritance, she defies convention and places an ad in the paper for a commoner husband, fully intending to take charge of her life. When the perfect candidate applies, Margaret has no inkling that he’s keeping a life-long promise or that a midnight kiss holds the key to healing her spinster’s heart.

Dukes, Actually by Erica Ridley
The Duke of Azureford isn’t the arrogant, aloof lord his peers perceive him to be. Yes, he’s awkward, but he has a plan to fix it. In order to woo a respectable lady, he must learn how to flirt. The completely inappropriate girl next door would make a perfect instructor, but a terrible duchess. So why can’t he walk away? Incorrigible hoyden Miss Carole Quincy likes fast carriages, carom billiards, and the beautiful, buttoned-up Duke of Azureford. She’d be delighted to help him out of his shell and into her arms. Who cares if they’re just pretending to flirt?

It’s cold out there so if you’re looking for something burning hot, well, here you go.

I don’t read erotica. I also don’t start a series in the middle. But when I picked up Tiffany Reisz’s The Saint… oh, I did, I did, I did.

The fifth in the Original Sinners series, The Saint was surprisingly easy to begin. I thought I’d have to keep a large cast of characters in mind, but the story starts with one person, novelist Nora Sutherlin, who’s retreated to a cabin in the woods to deal with a tragedy alone. Soon afterwards, though, she has a visitor, a vineyard owner called Nico. She previously broke the news to him that his biological father is a man she knows (in the biblical sense of the word), but naturally Nico feels nothing for the stranger who sired him. So when he comes to Nora, she tells him the story of how she first encountered his father—back when she was a fifteen-year-old called Eleanor, and of how she met a certain priest.

I don’t usually like rebellious-yet-precocious teenagers or love stories between underage girls and older men, but this book makes it all work. There’s a good reason for Eleanor’s defiance towards pretty much anyone in authority, she gets some of the best comebacks in the story, and under her foul mouth and flinty exterior, she’s loyal and fearless. She’s also a person who needs understanding and acceptance just like anyone else, and she gets both from Søren, the new priest. He quickly realizes she’s fallen very passionately in love with him.

Søren is a fascinating man who walks a line between his vocation and his erection. To put it another way, he loves his work – he believes in God, is a highly educated Jesuit, and is unfailingly kind  and protective those in need – but he’s also a sexual sadist. And we’re not talking a little mild spanking here. Honestly, this is one reason the book wasn’t a DIK for me; there were sex scenes I skimmed, my knees tightly crossed. The other reason is Søren’s childhood, which was truly messed up. A lot of trigger warnings here.

This is a well-done, sexy historical romance.

When her mother dies, Victoria Temple is the only one who can protect her younger sister Claire from the perverted attentions of their stepfather. And Tory will do anything to help her beautiful sibling: Endure beatings, steal an heirloom necklace, and even disguise their true identities. Tory knows that her stepfather will do all it takes to get the necklace and Claire back in his grasp. What better way to hide than to dress as servants? But posing as the working class is rather difficult when no one will hire them but the Earl of Brant, a known rake. With no other opportunities, Tory must take the Earl up on his offer, only to realize that she may have put her sister in even more danger when she notices the gleam of want in the Earl’s eyes as he gazes upon Claire. Once again, it is up to Tory to protect Claire from the amorous attentions of a man.

It is true that Cord, Earl of Brant, gives Tory and Claire a position in his home intent on seducing the ethereal Claire. Life is not easy as of late and Cord needs a new mistress in order to forget his money woes. But it does not take long for him to discover that innocent Claire is not the woman for him – it is Tory who intrigues him, with her mind and body. Soon enough, Cord is forming plans to make Tory his new mistress. Still, the more Cord gets to know Tory, the more he realizes that she is hiding something. But Cord does not have time to dwell on Tory’s secrets, for his own money problems are paramount in his mind.

Tory cannot let Cord know that she is actually of noble birth since, if he finds out, he will be obligated to hand her and her sister over to their stepfather. She knows that she is tempting fate by working for the man and that sooner or later they will be found. She is also tempting fate with her own virginity, for she knows that she cannot hold back her desire to become Cord’s mistress. But what will happen when Cord finds out that his mistress is actually the daughter of a peer? And, even worse, what will happen to her lovely and innocent sister? In the end, Tory must make the biggest choice of all – the choice between the two people she loves and her own happiness.

Looking for some super fun chick-lit? Here you go! (The second book in the series is on sale too!)

The book opens about five minutes after the second book ended. Lizzie’s boyfriend, Luke, returned to propose after they broke up (because he told her he couldn’t see her in his future). She accepts, then sends him away while she gets rid of Chaz, Luke’s best friend and Lizzie’s best friend’s ex, who is still in her bed after nearly having sex with him the night before. Lizzie thought that it was just a drunken one-time fling, but Chaz sees it differently – he realizes that he’s been in love with her for a long time.

She, however, is adamantly engaged to Luke, even though their relationship takes a different turn. He is busy studying all the time for his post-bac classes, and Lizzie is working at a wedding gown restoration shop while the owner is recovering from a heart attack. She has gained fame for her work and finds herself designing a wedding gown for a Chihuahua-toting Paris Hilton-esque “skanky crack whore” socialite. Luke then disappears all together, dropping his summer classes to work at an investment firm in Paris.

Meanwhile, her friends begin to wonder why she’s engaged to Luke, who is, after all, in France. They all say that it’s obvious she’s in love with Chaz, something she denies. However, when Lizzie needs someone, it is Chaz at her side, not Luke, leaving her to begin to realize that her friends may be right after all.
